Deleted segment, expertly written...

I read the script of D.U. before production and there was a segment that I don't think was ever filmed in which it explains how Calvin Candie acquired Broomhilda. It was a tremendous segment, very well-written. I was very surprised/disappointed when I seen Django that it wasn't included. Probably due to the runtime. But, still, it was great stuff.

The oafish son of a very wealthy man had purchased Broomhilda as a gift/wife for the son. Broomhilda, while still technically a slave, was happy with the arrangement, as she got to live much better than she had been living previously. She took the buffoonish son under her wing, even explaining to him how to, well, have sex with her better (part of a short and sometimes comical montage of her making him a better man). The young man fell in love with Broomhilda. He then took Broomhilda out for a night on the town and they went to gamble at Candieland. Candie, with the help of Sheba (the fancy black prostitute-type that hung out with Candie), essentially tricked the son out of Broomhilda in a game of cards. The son, knowing he was swindled out of the love of his life, got angry and objected heartily, which ended with him getting shot and killed by Candie after the son called Candie a "cheater". There was a playing of a few keys of the piano during the dispute which, I thought, ended the scene very well.

I'm not sure why they cut it, it was a great segment. Like I say, probably for time/money. (Does anyone know if it was filmed at all?) Read the script online if you get a chance, it would have been a great part of the movie.
