“Hunter Killer”? Really?
Just saw the trailer on The History Channel. First I ever heard of this film.
The title...I dunno, right now I’m calling it the lamest movie *title* ever.

That's what they are called. They hunt...they kill.
They're also known as "attack" or "fast attack" submarines, but "hunter-killer" sounds cooler for a movie title.
The navy calls their subs in the HK class the ones designed to stalk soviet subs HK being hunter killer.
So I’ve learned :-)
I should have done some simple research.
Odd though, I have seen probably 95% of the submarine films out there, and I swear until this film I’ve never heard those two words together like that. Either that or it’s the beginning of the end for my grey matter.
The soviets have a different name for their fast attack subs but during the cold war they were classified so we just started giving them our own names. Akula is what we named the russian version of the HK subs. I've also heard of HKs being called Los Angeles class as well.
shareOh for fucks sake... Hunter Killer is not some official class name for a specific sub. It's an informal general use category for a type of sub based on mission use.
There are two primary types of subs (and a myriad of lesser variants)
The two primary types are SSN and SSBN.
These are Attack subs and Ballistic missile subs. The attack subs are those that are colloquially referred to as Hunter Killers
Class names are official names for a class of a specific sub design. Los Angeles is one such class. So is Seawolf and Virginia classes. Ohio is a class of SSBN. SSBNs are colloquially referred to as "Boomers" in the same was Attack subs are called Hunter Killers
What you referred to in your answer is Class Names vs Nato Reporting code names. None which has Fuck-all to do with "hunter killer".
LOL. Calm down, bruh.
share"Hunter-Killer" is just an non-official term for "attack submarine" - they mean the same.
An attack submarine is any submarine designed to hunt down and sink enemy ships and submarines, that's it.
There is non such thing as "Russian version of hunter-killer subs."
Any Russian attack submarine (Akula, Victor, Sierra, ...) is a hunter-killer, not just some "version" of it.
The title is spot on.
Too bad it makes no difference, as the movie is a disaster in every aspect.
Yes. They didn't hunt nor kill but were hunted and nearly killed so I guess the movie would have benefited from a comedy element and being named "Hunted and nearly Killed" as there were so many characters that were just silly.

Agree, I didn't expect much from this movie. Enjoyed the rescue sequence too.
