WashPo: Nielsens top programs for Oct. 17-23

The following are the top 20 primetime shows from Oct 17 - 23 based in Nielsen ratings. Poor ABC only has one show on the list. I think there'll be a change at the top within the next year:

LOL that is SOOOO crazy! I don't think Shonda's new show is going to do well, and we all saw how bad The Catch did last season. The only Top show from Shonda in Mid-season will be Grey's Anatomy.

The demo ratings is what counts. And to be fair, ABC's Wednesday Comedy Block didn't air last week so they would have had more shows place in the top 25.

But yeah, ABC does have alot of problems. Their Sunday nights are a disaster. Last I saw they had the most shows 7, that were doing under 1.0. And i'm sure they hope their biggest new hit Designated Survivor falling to 1.3 last night was only because of the World Series.

But i'm guessing ABC President Channing Dungey will get at least another year to turn things around.

Yikes, Designated Survivor adjusted down while 3 of the 4 shows that aired before it adjusted up.

Three of ABC’s comedies — “The Goldbergs” (1.8), “Speechless” (1.7) and “Modern Family” (2.3) — adjusted up a tenth of a point, while “Black-ish” held its 1.7 from the early ratings. “Designated Surivvor,” however adjusted down a tenth to 1.2, 0.4 off of its previous episode.

Really enjoying Speechless so happy to see the ratings are holding steady. And Yay! for Black-ish.

Sunday nights is Once Upon a Time. That's doing good no?

No, the ratings have dropped even more this season and it's on the verge of going under 1.0.

From this past Sunday:

ABC had a rough night Sunday, with all three of its dramas falling and two of them, “Secrets and Lies” and “Quantico,” hitting series lows in adults 18-49 — each scored a 0.7. “Once Upon a Time,” meanwhile, tied its series low at 1.0.

Of course the heavily hyped Walking Dead returned on Sunday, but even before WD returned, the ratings for this night on ABC was already dropping.

Aw man! That's my show. Thanks

It finally fell under 1.0 to 0.9.

With two big live events on the other networks, ABC and CBS predictably had down nights. None of ABC’s shows hit 1.0 in adults 18-49, with “Once Upon a Time” (0.9), “Secrets and Lies” (0.6) and “Quantico” (0.6) all recording series lows. CBS’ “Madam Secretary” (0.8) and “Elementary” (0.6) were also at series lows, while “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.2) fell half a point from last week’s NFL-assisted season best.

ABC Dramas this week:
-Grey's Anatomy: 2.2;
-Designated Survivor: 1.2;
-HTGAWM: 1.2;
-Once Upon a Time: 0.9;
-Notorious: 0.8;
-Conviction: 0.8;
-Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: 0.8;
-Secrets & Lies: 0.6;
-Quantico: 0.6.

ABC might as well cancel everything under 1.0 and just start over. How are Quantico and Secrets & Lies still airing?

reply

Damn. That sucks. OUAT is not as good as it used to be but it's still good. I really thought it was doing better than that. Don't people love Disney and fairy tales!

The ratings might have fallen, but those posting about ratings don't think (as of right now) ABC will cancel the show since OUAT is one of ABC's favorites, they have one of the strongest fanabses on ABC and because ABC has bigger fish to fry. Especially if the mid-season shows tank as hard as most seem to think they will. So for now, most seem to think it's safe. But if it keeps dropping, I don't know..

And I don't watch OUAT, but it's interesting seeing how similar the criticisms are for this show & Scandal. Seeing hate about the storylines. Storylines not making sense. Characters being made unlikable. Too much Hook. And frustration about the writers not fixing things even after fans complaints.

Sounds familiar? Especially when you see the Hook complaints. Complaints looks so similar to Jake hate. Only difference being Hook seems waaaay bigger on that show than Jake is on Scandal.

Do you find the issues with this show similar to Scandal, preshusbabe?

Now that I think about it, I do. Spoilers!!

A lot of people complain about Hook and Regina being faves and taking over the show (Mellie/Jake). A lot of people think Regina is spoiled and doesn't deserve the redemption she's been getting because of her evil past. Regina's one of my fave characters so I don't mind. People want to see them focus more on Snow and the Charmings.

Sometimes they do throw side fairy tales in there that take away from the main characters and do little for the plot. They try to squish the MCs into these fair tales and sometimes it doesn't work. Some characters IMO have been thrown away because they could have done more with them like Ursula the sea witch and Rapunzel.

Some stuff seems to come out of nowhere like last season they had Red Riding Hood making out with Dorothy and all this time we never saw that she was L or Bi. It's like they just threw it in there to please people who have been shouting for same-sex couples to be shown on the show and now they can check it of their list. They never even mentioned it again. Also now the Evil Queen is all seductive and coming on to Rumplestilkin who also had a relationship with her mom and has always been like a father figure. This came out of nowhere after six seasons and it's weird to me. Like Brother Jake and Sister Olivia.

And I need them to go ahead and do Princess Tiana. They've done everyone else.

Then you haven't been following the OUAT fandom at all. Yes, you get complaints about Hook, but he is still one of the more popular characters on the show (second fave male after Rumple). Baelfire and Robin Hood were killed off with no one missing them too much, but when they threatened Hook people were raging.

The people who DO hate Hook and think so because they hate the shipping aspect and hate Captain Swan (the shipper name), same as viewers hating Olitz. No one hates Hook at the level that they do Fitz and Jake, because because they never bothered with a love-triangle that turned the fangirls against each-other.

Just going by what is being said when there's a discussion about what happened to the show. Hook is brought up alot along with other issues with the show. What I get is, he's a dick that gets away with things and too much focus, etc.

I said above he's big on the show, so even i'm full aware of his popularity. But I also come across hate for him or viewers that seem to be tired of him.

Interesting. The show sounds very busy.

Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Ratings: Once Upon a Time Rebounds

With the World Series over last week, things went back to normal in primetime last night. Which meant, among other things, that Sunday Night Football (5.6/17) was the top rated show of the evening and NBC won the night.

However, a new normal may be emerging on ABC that doesn’t have a winning aura for Secrets & Lies (0.6/2) and Quantico (0.6/2). Neither series saw any rebound at all from the key demo lows they fell to on October 30 when they faced both Game 5 of the World Series on Fox and SNF’s Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles match-up on NBC. Interestingly, 8 PM’s Once Upon A Time (1.1/3) did see a rise over last week, going up 22% among adults 18-49.
