They claim it's because it's no longer a positive thing. I've been on here since I was a little. That really sux because I have absolutely no idea how to use Twitter and the like or whatever. I'm really upset about this. Did everyone else see that announcement??? I think it said the message board feature is being removed Feb 20. What a bummer :(
Here's some of the message for those that haven't seen it: IMPORTANT: IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.
That really sucks! I love reading and posting comments here. This is my most used site along with YouTube. I am really bummed. I will hardly ever use the site anymore if at all. 😠😢
Please comment and let me know where I can go to have a similar experience talking about movies/TV with others.
I think they are going to lose a lot of traffic as a result. I have been a member since 2000. The message board feature is honestly the best feature of the site. But I guess they will learn the hard way.
I think this is a terrible decision. The only reason I use imbd is to discuss my favourite TV programmes with others or read other people's interpretation of an episode! As for looking for other info I think there are far better sites. Guess I will be signing off then. X
I know how to use other social media but a message board makes it much easier to follow conversations. I use the forums on IMDB more than anything else but I guess Amazon could find a way to monitise the boards.
"No longer positive"???? Says who? I've seen people disagree, but don't ever see blatant abuse or anything.
You should have visited the "Hidden Figures" board before the movie even came out and the first 2 weeks of wide release, to know what vile and hateful messages are. That board was ridden with racists, and white supremacists with the most anti-black hateful rhetoric I have ever seen on any board. I thought it was bad on the Empire board before it even premiered, but Hidden Figures was worse.
I was there battling and arguing and we got insulted, Obama got insulted, blacks got insulted etc. It was just a cesspool of racist bigots. The moderators worked full-time deleting all the hateful posts to clean up that message board. It was really sad.
I for one am disappointed but I can honestly see why. America is not the same again and I don't think discussions will be as civil as they are supposed to be. IMDB boards are really good for interacting/discussing about shows and movies but I don't know if the discussions overall are positive anymore.
People will find other means of creating discussion boards for their favorite shows/movies. There is also facebook too which is more popular with a lot of fans compared to IMDB boards. I am on twitter and I just follow movies and shows on twitter to find out all I need to know.
It may be for the best during these hateful times.

It's just so easy to simply hit the ignore button though.
It all depends on how swamped the boards are with the racists as was with the Hidden Figures board. It was practically flooded and overwhelmed by these bigots that you just couldn't read one positive post without being swamped by vastly racist attacks.
Good riddance to these boards I say, because we are now living in hateful times.

Maybe the moderators need to do a ban by IP address to get rid of the trolls? Why punish those who don't abuse the system.
It could be for a lot of other reasons especially financial. Based on the traffic coming through, they might need to hire more staff to handle all that extra stuff and knowing that there is a lot of hateful rhetoric in the country right now, who knows how many more staff they might need to hire?
Maybe they have put everything into consideration and decided to just cut their losses and eliminate the problem altogether and frankly speaking, the hateful rhetoric has been amped up quite a bit. My worry is that the nazi racists may be using the IMDB boards as a place to spew their hateful rhetoric.
There must be something significant going on that has caused the owner to arrive at this decision, profits be d@mned and I don't blame them one bit. It may just be too overwhelming for them to handle all the hateful posts.

I'm really sad to hear that. But with Steve Bannon sitting right besides his racist boss Trump (#NotMyPresident)...people feel so bold. "Get rid of political correctness", was Trump's battle cry. That was dog whistle for people who are white and male to insult all minorities and women.
No wonder why President Obama said to people who are black, "Keep your dignity". I will. But it's really bad seeing cowards who think "white nationalism" is the way to go. I guess America has to keep fighting the same battles against racism. What a waste of energy.

You know what....I've seen the board messages be cut down to only about 10 or so pages. I bet this site is too big with message board posts, and Amazon who now owns the site made a decision based on nothing more than money.
