He has really grown on me as a character. He seems to have a genuine heart for his people. I also think he's sexy as hell, and I hope Cady ends up with him.

The actor is Mexican, not Indian, BUT has Cherokee blood. Lou has 1/8 Native American blood.
I like him too. He's educated, quick, and represents the Native American well. And Lou Diamond as well. He's actually been awarded something from the Cheyenne if you read his bio for serving them well.
Other than that I skipped the thread completely. I'm a Newbie and want to enjoy the show on my own, but did think Nighthorse well spoken. I love the culture and quotes that comes from all of them.
The Native Americans that they hired for this are awesome. Even the ones who don't say much. The extras, all of them. The dude that came after Branch is gorgeous as are a lot of them. Damn, man, you know?

Most Mexicans are Mestizos, meaning mixed Native and European. Many of them probably have more Native in them than a lot of those who identify as Native in North America

But I have a hunch (based on nothing, just a guess) that it will change in (if there is one, which I hope there is) the next season. I don't think they want to leave Walt being paranoid all the time and on a witch hunt after Nighthorse. I'm thinking that something will be revealed next season that shows he did actually have ties to the Irish Mob, and that he set Malachi up as the patsy for it all. But it won't be enough to charge him with anything, and Malachi goes to prison for it instead of Nighthorse.

shareI would 100% watch a Nighthorse-focused spinoff if TPTB decided to go that direction after Season 6 (I know, I know, but a lad can hope). He's such a great antihero, I think that's why he's had more screentime now that Netflix has taken over. I mean, I know the morally-ambiguous-prestige-drama space is crowded right now, but ye gods, the backstory opportunities alone...
On the "genuine heart for his people" thing, though, did you notice the ceremonial shield Henry sees in 5.02 @ 5:09 is eerily similar to the one in Jacob's shipping crate in 5.06 around 27:43 ? The anthropology nerd in me really hopes that gets addressed.
A Martinez has been around Hollywood a long time. When I first saw him on Longmire, it took me a stretch to connect him to The Cowboys (1972), a John Wayne film in which A Martinez played the wild Mexican stallion boy, Cimarron, in the crew of boys pushing cattle to market after all the old cowboys ran off to the gold fields, leaving Wayne and Roscoe Lee Browne to wet-nurse boys into cowboys.
Of course, he has had a long soap opera career (Santa Barbara), too.
I've been a fan of A Martinez's since The Cowboys. He has a long, long career in Hollywood. He has been in a lot of soap operas and I remember him best from LA Law.
I do think Nighthorse has something illegal going with the artifacts. He was also watching some video that he didn't want Malachi or anyone else to see. However, I do think Malachi is the true villain of the series.
It's funny to see Graham Greene, someone else who has been around Hollywood forever, as the bad guy. He always portrays the nice, wise Indian. Remember him in Northern Exposure?
