Simply Amazing

I'm a big fan of world cinema in general but this movie has blown me away. This contains some of the best acting I have ever seen in any movie, right down to the little girl and some of the characters with smaller parts. For a single movie to cover a whole host of moral quandaries while still affording each one it's due compassion and sensitivity is incredibly unique. Most movies find it hard to cover one.

It was good but started to fizzle out for me. I still give it an 8/10. Who took the money? Who did she end up living with? Or is this the typical cop out letting the viewer decide?

reply

When it comes to the money, could it be explained by the scene in the beginning when Simin has to pay the movers and goes in to the bedroom to get money? We see her with a whole wad of money. Seems like it would make sense.

Blown away by the layers and depth of the characters, there are no clear cut heroes or villains and that's quite something!

A Separation: 9.5/ 10

Totally in agreement. Watched the movie yesterday, and had this thrilling sensation of slowly being sucked into the story with its myriad of characters and plots. Can't remember ever having seen a movie where everybody, and I mean everybody on screen acts so seemingly effortlessly and natural, the camera is there and at the same time isn't. And the final scene totally blew me away.

An incredible powerful experience. I am grateful to have seen it.
