I think he was killed like everyone first denied and then finally told her he was. When Christine was tied to the stake and was with Neil on the beach, she was having a near-death experience which Neil snaps her out of by yelling ‘wake up’ and then she kicks ass only to escape and die on the ocean because of that damn necklace. The story is very convoluted though and I didn’t buy the hunky blond as a travel writer for a minute.
