Reagan...

I don't have anything against Megan Fox as an actress, I actually thought she played her character very well.

However, I felt her character had been done too many times. She's the typical hot girl that acts like a tough bitch and everyone puts up with her because she's hot. She's emotionally unattached because she's never had a real relationship and so on. I thought it would've been better if she was actually really nice and had a different persona. If she wasn't as pretty as she is, they would all probably hate her.

Yes, Reagan is too much like S1 Cece but Hannah Simone did it better. Too much of a rehash both on the show and in other shows we've seen before. However, if they made her too nice than they risk stepping on Jess's character and making it look like they are trying to replace Jess.

Honestly, I didn't think they needed to add another character at all. I thought the show was still interesting with just the main four characters doing the heavy lifting. Adding Reagan just threw off the mix. The plots centering around her are way less interesting than just watching the other four characters bounce off each other. She just dominates the storyline and everyone else becomes supporting players. It's the same problem the show has with Jess. The writers just have trouble giving all the characters equal weight and throwing another character in there doesn't help things.

reply

Yeah I actually agree with you. They didn't need to add another character, they were fine by themselves.

reply

the character basically only exists to keep nick & jess apart until later in the season then they picked up meeghan fox because they needed a star to hold up ratings during zooey absence and megahn has little range so they got stuck with that personality

reply

Yeah but I don't think they really needed her, tbh. She really wasn't that funny. She played her character well, but she wasn't really funny. I think they would've been fine w/o her too.

reply

Yes, it's really obvious when they cast romantic interests with less comedic range than the rest of the cast. They had the same problem with Jess's boyfriend Ryan. Good looking dude but really bland and unmemorable.

I honestly wish we had more of Aly than Reagan. I love Winston/Aly together and even her short scenes have been great on the show.

reply

They could have used Aly, Nadia... Much better and funnier characters. I thought Reagan was a redo of s1 Cece. but way more boring and deeply uninteresting. Let's hope they get rid of her soon.

reply

Seriously! Aly is much better and more interesting. What bugs me is the fact that I don't think Nick actually likes her. I think he thinks he likes her just because she's hot. Other than that, she's a super boring character.

reply

There's zero chemistry between them, zero. Nada. At all. And don't get me started on Aly and Nadia. The might technically not be as hot as Megan (I actually don't find her attractive, especially with Jess and Cece right there), but they are actually funny. Which is exactly what I want!!

reply

I'm with you. I love Aly and Nadia! I don't buy the hype that Reagan/Megan Fox is leagues more attractive than any other woman on the show. They are actually all attractive and all of Nick's girlfriends have been attractive so I don't really get it when the writers or FOX's marketing department try to push that. I wish we could have more Aly and more Aly/Winston, but Nasim Pedrad is really busy.

reply

I agree, she plays this character a lot. The beautiful girl who's tough as nails, and who everyone gawks at because she's attractive. And I don't dislike Megan either, just think she has a lot more potential. Her New Girl character is very much like every other role she's played

-Who is it?
-It's Grandpa. And it sounds like he's gotten into the horseradish again.

reply

I feel like she doesn't take herself seriously in real life. I've heard her say in interviews that her job is just to look pretty. She's not completely wrong but she does have potential to be more. There's many famous actresses that are beautiful but aren't only known for their beauty.

reply

I completely agree with you.

They did this same thing with Angie (the ex-stripper played by Olivia Munn), Julia (lawyer played by Lizzie Caplan), Fawn (politician played by Zoe Lister-Jones), Jess's sister (played by Linda Cardellini), like two of Schmidt's bosses with whom he had sexual relationships, and Winston's ex-girlfriend Daisy (and, one could argue, the two women he dated between Daisy and Ally). They LOVE recycling this theme of the intimidating, emotionally detached dark-haired lady. It's weird. And yes, it is also very tiring.

Variety, folks! Sometimes it's nice to break away from the routine!

I actually think Jessica Alba would have been great as Reagan. Though she's beautiful, she seems more personable than Meagan Fox, who I like as well, but imo,Jessica Alba would have been a better fit for the group.
