Schmidt has been great this season. They made him a little "soft" in his past relationships but he's delightfully neurotic again this season.
Winston keeps getting better and better; he's my favorite character currently. I loved his conversation with his bird-shirt ("Was she hitting on us?"). I wish they had more Winston/Cece plots together. Usually they do stories with Nick/Winston, but Winston/Cece together has a fun energy.
I think they're holding Nick back a little until Reagan comes back. I heard someone mention that a lot of his plots are like Winston's old plots...he's just kind of there and not connected to the rest of the characters, and I can see that. I'm waiting for the writers to give him a little meatier material to work with. You can see a little of that in the first episode of S6 and in "Jaipur Aviv" but I think they need to push the narrative forward more than that. The Nick/Jess stuff is dragging and we're only 6 episodes into S6.
Jess is a mess. They just don't know what to do with her anymore other than stick her in yet another relationship. That's basically her whole character now. Why didn't she take a "finding herself" trip during the summer when Nick went to New Orleans? She needs to get out of the loft or something. Not finding anything particularly compelling about her narrative so far in the first half of S6. Maybe they have something better planned for her in the second half.
