This show is a TRAIN WRECK .......!!!!!!!

I am so disappointed .!! New Girl had a good potential. Specially at the end of season two. The character Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick ( Jake Johnson) built a good tension between both characters towards the end of season two.
After the last few minutes of season two; it seems that the show lost its way. And it is really unfortunate. I don't really understand what happened.? They had a good context in which to build a good and really funny show. But it seems that the writer-creator Elizabeth Meriwether let her creativity go out the window. ( Just playing safe became the norm )

I have seen every single episode to this date hoping for something good to
happened between characters and the whole show just keeps going down deeper
into a down ward spiral.

I don't remember where was it that someone described this show as "groundbreaking" . And I ask myself, How.??? Where.?? Why do they play so safe that it almost seems like I am watching a bad version of "Groundhog Day" for six looong seasons (without a bad laugh track) .

This is turning into a sad situation and I can help to wonder what is going on inside the mind of the show creators.?? Is it that they do not have guts to really take some risks with the characters.?? Why after season six, Jess, still have doubts about Nick's love.???? Why is it that their jokes don't go as far as just some sex remarks..?? I mean is that all they can think of.???

The producers of the show keep wasting opportunity after opportunity to make the show worth it. Not even Zooey Deschanel can save this train wreck of a show. . But Why.????? Not to mention that they solve every single conflict in the same episode.. Could it be that they don't have enough budget for it.??? I ask myself.. or is this show made for the Disney Channel.??? I don't even think that it qualifies..!

In the universe of countless meaningless shows, there are actually quite a few that stand their ground. Shows like " Peep Show" and "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" come into mind. To think of it; there is way more things happening and with more meaning in one single episode of Always Sunny or Peep Show than four episodes back to back from New Girl. The more I watch an episode of Always Sunny or Peep Show the more I realize, that the New Girl show situation is really sad! Then again I ask myself.. Why..??????????????? Why do they have to be so safe.??? Why there is no fire in the creator's mind? and why New Girl became so boring ? I am disappointed because they have good actors in it. But As I stated earlier: not even Zooey Deschanel can save this Train Wreck from happening.

Please producers and creators of New Girl: respect your audience by showing some guts and fight for a well developed show and characters.! If not, then is time to end the slow moving feeling of an accident waiting to happen.

It is really sad.!

S2 of this show was like magic in a bottle. I just don't think they can re-capture that magic. They just didn't have a good exit strategy after Nick got the girl. They do play it exceedingly safe now. Nowadays when they at least have a coherent narrative, you have to count the episode as a win, unfortunately. Last two episodes of this show have been strong though. Not reaching the heights of S2, but they did have coherent narratives that allowed all the characters good amounts of screentime so that counts as a win now that the show has aged significantly. This show just didn't age all that well.

The chemistry among the main cast remains strong but the writers just don't seem to know how to utilize it as effectively anymore, outside of Winston. Winston really came into his own in the latter seasons, surprisingly. He pretty much saves the show every week now. The writing isn't strong enough to support the cast.

I couldn't agree more. The new episodes are either boring or completely stupid. Also, they should stop stealing 90s sitcoms plots. It's getting ridiculous.

I don't know what happened. I guess they only had that one good arc with Nick and then the show imploded in S3 and has just been floundering to find a focus for every season afterwards. They can usually pull off a strong season finale, but the middle is usually a mess.

I actually really like the show (probably one of my favorite network shows right now) but I'm acutely aware of all the issues people complain about in the show.

Nick never had good arcs. The only time he caught my attention, was when he dated the cop lady. And it was only because she was played by Lizzie Caplan. Otherwise, Nick has been boring and whiny.

reply

Uhh...I think you need to go back and rewatch the show. Lizzy Caplan was Julia the lawyer. That was kind of important because she was supposed to be most similar to Nick, or at least who Nick used to be when he still wanted to be a lawyer. Pretty big plot point.

Nick had one good arc in S2. He hasn't really had any good arcs since then. I guess co-owning the bar and his book are supposed to be arcs but they just didn't have as much impact or emotional weight in the show because they mainly had to erase all the growth he did have back in S2 to make those plot points work.

I'm not obsessed with this show, like you are. Sorry. It's been six years. I remember the bus scene, her haircut. But her job description slipped my mind. I knew it was involving keeping the order, but I thought she was a cop, from that dark suit I remembered her wearing.

Yep, I know the NG canon really well. I don't know why you're twisting that into an insult, but okay. You must at least have liked the show at one point since I've seen you on this board a lot? But for some reason you really hate it now and you want everyone to know?

I agree with you. And is a shame lots of fans of this show are feeling the same.

We could discuss all day everything that has gone wrong with this show.
I fell in love with the show in S1, and then came this beautiful season 2 which I think many believe including me, it is the best season.
Although I understand it might've been easier for writers keep Jess and Nick separated, the whole way they broke up was ridiculous and I was angry about it.

The rest of the series is sadly filler episodes until they can't make more money with this show.
To be realistic the whole show is screwed, the only thing we can hope for is writers to realise it and make a final season as good as S1 or S2 and finish this show, before the show gets cancelled.

This show is now like a little business for Zooey Deschanel and producers, they have no respect for the show anymore, they just want to keep stretching this show as much as they can to make a living out of it.

So sad this show has come to this.

the show was gold S1 & S2! Such memorable lines & scenes! I watched only half of S3 when i started to notice the characters were more over dramatic & not coming off naturally corky like they usually do. Its like the show hired new writers who knew nothing PRIOR to who these characters are! It's very sad to see! This show was like my baby when it first started lol. I just hope when it ends....it ends on a sweet not sour note.
