SONIC DOES NOT HAVE FUR.

Every Sonic game from 1989-2002, and every Sonic comic, and TV show depicting Sonic did not have any fur texture on sonic whatsoever.

Sonic was just blue. No fur. He isn't supposed to look like TEDDY RUCKSPIN, ffs.

Whatever you call that frankenstein monstrosity they've concoted in these new movies... Looks far more like a stuffed animal more than a living thing.

accept the truth:

I posit GENESIS graphics at the time couldn't render this truth in an action video game, back in 1988

Aren't those more spikes than fur?

But anyway, fur toys are easier to make and handle.

One of the main revenue streams for this kind of franchises is the toys.

reply

article says both fur and spikes

reply

Irrelevant , because Sonic is NOT a just plain "hedgehog". He's an ANTHROPOMORPHIC hedgehog.
With human arms, legs, and walks upright, and SPEAKS ENGLISH. Wears running shoes, gloves etc.

So I think it can be clearly be said Sonic is absolutely not a real-life hedgehog , he's more like a mutant. Like a teenage mutant ninja turtle.

reply

Good point.

Also all just fiction.

reply

so what do you describe it as, skin?

i imagines it's quills not fur but he still looks good in these movies. not the first iteration where he looked like shit. the one that went to production. no he looks good man. you're high

i dont see how they make him a realistic quill hedgehog without looking dumb, like an actual realistic hedgehog. no one wants to see that

" he still looks good in these movies. "

??? Really? Looks more like a dog than Sonic.

(also why does Tails look constipated?)

Also, what are the "spikes" if they're covered in fur??? Just .. big, weird fleshy mounds?? They're supposed to be SPIKES. It doesn't even make sense if from a genetic standpoint. So, Sonic and Knuckles don't have spikes anymore in the new design, they just have these big fleshy appendages with fur attached to it like a Twi'lek.

So, some time after 2000, Sonic got this ultra-realistic teddy-bear fur texture going on.
They didn't even draw him with fur in the Sonic Archie comics. His skin was always a flat blue tone, never any fur texture whatsoever.

reply

yeah but so what is it then, skin? just like a smooth texture like a dog's belly but blue? what do you consider it to be? and how would it look rendered in CGI?

i mean you're right that's kind of a little *too* furry but I still do think it looks good and I maintain that I do not see it looking much better if it wasn't furry. perhaps you can do a photoshop what you think it could like like? because I just don't imagine how it does NOT come out looking worse.

and tails is constipated because tails is very concentrated on the mission at hand, my friend! that's pure unadulterated righteous anger you see before you!

"yeah but so what is it then, skin? just like a smooth texture like a dog's belly but blue? "

Essentially. He was originally based off Felix the Cat. That's why Sonic has the same mouth , nose and eye shape as Felix.

Felix the Cat never had a fur TEXTURE. His fur is just basically black colored skin.
Because Felix was always meant to be DRAWN ANIMATION. That's the KEY. Sonic was always a traditionally DRAWN, ANIMATED character.

He's a cartoon. Not supposed to be a realistic, CGI-accurate, photo-accurate to the molocule looking hedgehog.
They should have either done him animated, and threw him with real life people (Like Space Jam) OR done the whole thing animated. Mixing CGI anthropomorphic characters with real life people just looks bad.

That's why the new TMNT movies dont look as realistic as the 1990 Jim Henson costumes, and never will, no matter how hard they try.

but they got Tails right no?

reply

Tails looks OK the rest look like mutant teddy bears/ stuffed animals.
