Re-watching

I had watched season one when it originally aired, but I wasn't super into it at the time. The episodes would build up on my DVR, because I never wanted to watch it, but when I did, I would enjoy it somewhat. It was better than Glee, at least.

I remember being torn between wanting Ivy to get the part, or Karen to get the part.

Well I finished re-watching season one, and am not sure why I ever thought Karen should have played Marilyn. I like Katharine McPhee as a singer and actress, and she's one of the most beautiful women I've seen. However, she looks, sounds, or behaves NOTHING like Marilyn Monroe. Ivy is heads and shoulders above her.

Now I'm just two episodes into season two, and I know it kind of moves away from focusing exclusively on Bombshell (sadly), but even just the few numbers so far re-emphasize how there's no earthly way Karen would have been considered to star in Bombshell.

I'm curious to hear what you think as you watch deeper into Season 2. Just 'cuz I've found my thoughts and heart wandering back to Smash recently, and it would be nice to experience it anew though fresh eyes - especially ones that can't be tainted by the original fandom experience, which was, needless to say, rather brutal and gruesome.

Also there's a handful of really brilliant moments in season 2, and I wanna see if you agree ;)

Yeah, it was odd. Even though I really disliked pretty much every plot line around "Hit List", I did like season 2, and was sad it ended. Sad ONLY because I wanted more "Bombshell."

There were definitely some great moments! The Sean Hayes plotline wasn't bad, and certainly "Ce n'est pas ma faute" was amazing. Also "They Just Keep Moving the Line" and "Grin and Bare It." Because Megan Hilty is always the star.

As far as original fandom, I did watch season 1 when it was on TV, I had a bunch of eps of season 2, but just deleted them unwatched. I definitely liked it the second time around. I think partly just because of my expectations (I remembered most of what happened) and also because I had more time to watch the DVDs, rather than apparently being busier when they were just on my DVR, so it was like a chore to have to watch the eps just to get them cleared off. If that makes sense.
