Unfortunately BlomKamp turns great ideas into mediocre movies... again
Spoilers...
It's too bad Neil took a great story which is just an allegory for life and turned it into a bunch of consciousness transferring nonsense. It would have been much better if Chappie were to learn about his limited life span early and reflect on what he would do with his short existence (like all of us) and then decides that he is going to search for his maker (who is very inaccessible for some reason). He finally finds his maker only to find out that his death is inevitable (just like the rest of us) and he is forced to accept his mortality. But Chappie's existence is fleeting which serves as a reminder to those around him of the briefness of life and just how special it is which in turn provides an important lesson for those willing to listen.
