Loved this movie, but...

The ending made no sense. If you are transferring consciousness then you are moving it totally from one place to another. So how was it that Chappie was able to harness the girl's consciousness to transfer later while she was still alive and conscious? This made no sense to me.

To clarify, he harnessed her consciousness while she was still alive and using it. How?

reply

I'm a-thinking neither engineer Deon Wilson or Vincent Moore would/did coin what was captured/recorded as consciousness.

For this discussion, it only mattered that the data were transferable, both Chappie's programming and the resultant learned experiences, and Yolanda's brain patterns while alive.

This is science-fiction, and there was no need to go into fine details.

It's kinda like backing up your hard drive. You can still use your computer and have a backup on a thumb drive.
Also, as I previously said; there's a thing called "artistic licencing" and "suspension of disbelief" (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief)
This is sci-fi.. nor a documentary.

Its data. Stored to USB. Save USB drive, insert USB, upload, its that simple. Not saying that something as complex as the conscious of a human being is simple, but if we want to believe the technology of this movie, it is possible.
