most random movie ever?

I just saw this in TV, never heard of it before had no idea what was about or who was in it.. at first seemed like a one of those traditional Ryan Gosling Drive type movie he got famous on.. but turned out to be the most random happening and random star studded movie I seen .. like random famous actors just turning up randomly like its a dream or Family Guy or sumthin

So we have Ryan Gosling playing Ryan Gosling as a stunt bike guy who just happens to become a bank robber becuz of the villain from Rogue1/Ready Player1.. oh and he has a kid with Eva Mendes who is married to future MCU Blade .. ok.. then he gets Janet Leigh'd by a cop played by.. wait is that Bradley Cooper? (I actually had to work out in my head if Cooper was famous when this movie came out or if he was like an unknown before realising he must've done Hangovers and ATeam etc by then).. who then gets Training Day'd by .. Ray Liotta?! (yep that's Ray Liotta in his most 'Ray Liotta' role yet turning up at Coop and Rose Byrnes (from XMen) house with two random actors).. then Cooper basically decides to become his Limitless character for..reasons..(maybe becuz of his Scarface dad?) and blackmails Kelvinverse Captain Pike (who'd earlier questioned Cooper like he was Han Solo at Mos Eisley) .. ok. Then we flash forward and wouldn't ya know it the two grown up kids (one being the future Green Goblin 2.0)are hanging out as..that's just how this shit works right..its like destiny or sumthin and sins of the fathers/star wars stuff ..ooh so deep. then it ends with Cooper getting almost Miller Crossing'd ..and Valerian wanting to be his dad becuz things worked out so well for him I guess

Ok I think that was everything right.. ok? I guess only thing missing was Brad Pitt turning up as his Killing Them Softly character to whack everyone

I don't mean to talk down to you, but it's only "random" in hindsight. It is extremely star-studded, but at the time that it was made and released this was not quite the case

This movie was (partly) written and directed by Derek Cianfrance. At the time that this movie was produced, he was the true rising star. His previous film was Blue Valentine, which garnered a lot of buzz and delivered an Oscar Best Actress nom to one of its stars, Michelle Williams

As a writer and/or director, getting an Oscar-nominated performance out of one of your lead actors is just about the easiest way to attract ambitious up-and-comers and established stars seeking more validation

Bradley Cooper was already famous, but wasn't quite as "respected" as he eventually ended up becoming (after American Hustle, American Sniper, and A Star is Born cemented him as a critical darling)

Ryan Gosling starred in Blue Valentine, and he seems to enjoy multi-collaborations with filmmakers, so he was bound to return

Ray Liotta is iconic because of Goodfellas, but he's lower B-tier in terms of prestige if we're being honest. He's done way too much VOD dreck to really be surprised that he'd take this part

Bruce Greenwood, as much as I like him, falls under a similar umbrella as Liotta. He's a character actor who brings a certain level of "presence" and maturity to his roles, but he isn't going to fetch a major price tag

Mahershala Ali, Dane DeHaan, and Ben Mendehlson were close to stardom, but not nearly close enough to demand bigger roles in what was probably being sold as a prestige picture

Basically, you are equating these professional actors with their most recognizable pop-culture characters and exclaiming "wow!", when in reality it says more about the industry that every talented actor eventually gets swallowed up into the modern tentpole black hole apparatus

It's an example of great casting, it's a credit to the producers who selected the talent. Oh and the movie is brilliant too. Not random

Like, I see that you have 5k posts, but you clearly don't know much at all about the movie industry or movies in general if this is what you took away from this film. Actually, I question your intelligence as a whole if you cannot grasp the concept of actors who aren't that famous YET getting roles in hyped movies along with other actors, who ARE currently famous and actors who WERE famous, or still are, but have sort of washed out to some extent

It's how the industry has worked since forever. If you look hard enough you could find multiple other examples of this. I won't bother to do the work for you, just spend more time on wikipedia and Imdb and watch more movies

reply

I mean, his screen name is bozo... heh.

reply

Thats quite the reply to some bozo who just basicaly said 'wow, a "star studded" cast'
I really cant work out what it is you're trying to "refute"

I think you just used to opportunity to show off your film school / fan boy knoweledge and give a little mini bio on each of the actors.

reply

Lol, I would never go to film school. I just went to real school enough to not be a total dumbass

And it's spelled "knowledge"
