Downbeat ending

If you think about it jason leaves a very good family life in order to basically become his father. So he will become an outlaw and probably be dead or in prison by his early 20s.

Maybe.But,he had lived his entire life not knowing anything about his father. So when he finally finds out everything, he may have just wanted to get away for awhile to find himself. Possibly even try to find out even more about his father.

Nah the director says he avoided a downbeat ending, it's meant be Jason living out his Father's dream, when he mentions in the cafe about just going away with Romina and his son.
