from the pharmacy

Oxycontin I think.🐭

AJ asked Jason to get "oxy" - oxycodone, trade name OxyContin. He was satisfied that the container given to him by Jason was indeed "oxy".
But, as mentioned in the Goofs section, oxycodone should not have legally been on an open shelf in the pharmacy.

reply

Well depending on the time frame oxycontin might have still been on that shelf. It took a little while before oxycontin became widely and famously abused, which is when they really started to put it on lockdown. And while it's far-fetched that Jason could just sneak behind a pharmacy counter so easily, it's not out of the question in a small town with such low crime rate, where that kind of occurrence is so unexpected.

The final segment is apparently set in 2012 - the year the film was made.
Maybe AJ thought it was cool to take Michael Jackson's drug of choice.

reply

Michael Jackson didn't die from oxycontin. He was using propofol, a very heavy tranquilizer. Oxycontin aren't tranquilizers; they are opiates. Opiates are abused widely, by all kinds of people. And AJ seemed to be impressed with rap artists, who sometimes known to drink codeine cough syrup, another opiate. so it's not surprising that he would want opiates. But a few days before that he scored ecstasy off of Jason, so it seems that he liked to get high in general..Jason on the other hand seemed to be more disciplined and really preferred just smoking bud.

It's true that MJ's use of propofol (Dipravin) shortly before his death is considered the (very strong) straw that broke the camel's back. But he had been using OxyContin for years.

I thought it was appropriate that a wannabee "bad" character like AJ should seek that particular drug.

reply

Yes and Don t forget doctors found his body riddled with heroin needle marks. He was on stuff stronger than heroin but that's the first hard drug he started doing. "H"

It is not true that Federal law requires that all C2s be placed in a locked cabinet. C2s may be placed in a locked cabinet or dispersed among the pharmacy with non-controlled medications. However, some states may be more strict than Federal law and may mandate that all C2s be kept in a locked cabinet.

First thing I thought of when I saw that scene was Drugstore Cowboy.

A group of drug users in the 1970's help finance their habit by robbing drug stores. Matt Dillon's character is very superstitious and eventually his luck runs out.

me too. one of my favorite films

After Luke dies this movie was so painful to sit through that even Oxy would not have curbed the pain. Even Liotta could not help the last 2/3 of this film and thats saying a lot. Is Schenectady really that depressing a place to live? Also the name of this movie is terrible.
....

The name of the movie reflects the Mohawk etymology: it means "beyond the pines" in the Mohawk language.

reply

The first third of the movie is by far the best part but honestly the last 2 parts have grown on me. Specifically the last part. Maybe it's just because I know characters like that and have been around that lifestyle. Oxys, MDMA, getting to messed up at parties and sketchy kids acting cool at first then trying to act hard. Also the inclusion of trapdoor by salem was so amazing. Not trying to glamorize that or make it seem cool. Just saying it was very relatable to me.

reply

Understandable. I am also fond of movies that would not be considered great or even good movies but for some odd reason I like them and never get tired of them. Also the first quarter of this movie is so entertaining that it makes the rest a bit boring in comparison.
