Ha! I'll bet the Brits say the same thing when a non-Brit is in a British role.
Just stop and think a few seconds how and why movies are made. Turning a profit is the prime motivation. They pick male and female actors based on a number of factors but always with audience interest as a major concern. No audience interest, no money, no profits.
Add to that any director and producer has certain actors they favor, either because they like their work or have some unnamed connection. Woody Allen is probably the most obvious example, he picks actors in his mind, contacts them directly and asks them to work for him. Ron Howard uses all his relatives.
As it has developed Australian actors seem to be the best at doing many different accents, maybe because they grew up watching TV shows and movies from many different countries, since their own industry is mostly non-existent. Plus they have to develop those skills to get work that pays decently.
I always smile when anyone mentions, or especially complains, about actors playing a role different from their native land. It has always been done, it will always continue to be done. It is just a facet of the industry and is no negative reflection on any actor or any country.
