A corporal in charge of an entire prison camp?


That seems weird. There would have to be dozens of guards at that camp - a platoon at least, if not part of a company. An officer would be in command.

Even if it is true that Watanabe was a corporal in charge of an entire camp, why would the Japanese do that? That is very strange.




I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Hmm, I'm not sure he was 'in charge'. He was certainly in a position of authority but that could have been because of his money and family maybe? Just an idea :-)

yeah, I think he gets his own camp when he is bumped to Sergeant..

In the book there are several other guards at the prisons. He is not technically in charge but the officers allow him to continue to take charge because he keeps the prisoners in line.
