Scene with the woman holding a baby

There's a scene about 2/3 of the way through the movie where a woman who is holding a baby and packing stuff into a van sees a car drive by telling her to get out of the area. The camera cuts to her, and then to where the car came from, which is now a sea of burning lava. The camera cuts back to her, and she is just standing there staring. End scene. What are we supposed to assume happened to her?

Crispy critters.

I found this movie one night, as it came on after the one I was watching and I didn't bother changing the channel. It's late at night, and there's nothing else really worth watching on television.

I have to admit, when it came to the part of the woman with the kid, I laughed out loud, because all I could think of was your comment!

Thank you for giving me a good laugh during an otherwise horribly bad movie.

I imagine that she threw her kid into the lava so she would have a better chance of survival on her own. If they both died that would have been a waste. I mean, she can always have more kids but if she sacrificed herself for her kid, the kid would have been toast anyway. No point in them both dying. Better the kid than the mom.
