Surprisingly Good

I don't know whats up with the hate but it was surprisingly good.

Overall the cast and writing was good enough and we don't see good romantic comedies often so I was happy with it. Especially the part in the book store at the end of the movie was compelling and I must say good acting on Efron's part

Although some people think this film is a step back for B Jordan and Miles Teller; I disagree considering 80% of the movies coming out is not good, this was a decent movie

What do you guys think?

Zacs acting in the book was bareable at best.

The plot was filled with stupid immature jokes and forced awkward moments, that were neither genuinely funny, nor intentional hilarious.

The 3 main characters were portrayed as if they were in their late twenties with a full educational backround, working as art directors and as a doctor, yet behave(and look) like they were in freshmen year at college.

They were supposed to be best friends since college, yet lie and purposely betray each other just to not look like "losers" in front of each other.

I agree that there aren't many decent rom-coms out there...but that's not enough to bare this film at all with the excuse it is not as bad as others. If you watched Crazy Stupid Love...thats not just a decent rom-com it's a very good one and compared to that That Awkward Moment was just awful in every sense of the word and to be honest...it really is one of the worst rom-coms of the past few years given it's celebrity cast and what came out in the end.

Of course this one is not nearly as good as Crazy stupid love but that doesn't mean it was bad. Similarly Definitely maybe was better than Crazy Stupid Love but that doesn't make CSL bad

I think the characters are believable. Long time friends lie or cheat each other all the time. There are still men in the world with serious jobs and acting like boys. There are lots of men who are in their 40s and act like they are in their 20s.

I think the movies strong part was the drama, it wasn't funniest movie but I enjoyed it and didnt get bored at all

Did you mean Definetely, Maybe? Cause I can't think of any rom-com called Similiarly Definetely xD

If not, I'd like a link please so I can check it out^^

Besides what I said before, what really made the movie so horrible to me were the really bad dialogues, the medicore acting, the forced relationships and awkward moments, which none of them really felt natural.

The only decent drama moment IMO was the confrontation between Ellie and Jason when he "acts" like "hey sis, wanna hang out again" after he ditched her on the funeral and the book reading at the end. But even those 2 were "just okay". Overall almost the whole plot just feels unnatural, forced and none of the characters really have any chemistry, except for the 3 friends, who don't really act like friends at all. Of course long time friends lie to each other...prolly some even lie about important stuff...but most only lie about stupid silly stuff, cause they are emberassed or w/e.

But the kind of lieing and betraying these guys do goes way beyond what "best friends" would do.

They just lied about their relationships with their significant ones and had a confrontational fight; what backstabbing?

I thought the chemistry was alright between them.

BTW Final fantasy sucks! just kidding :)

BTT though :)

Backstabbing, or betrayal might be too strong of a word. But what really made it stupid to me was that his friends started this whole pact to "support" him, though there was quite a bit of selfishness involved as well. But anyway, Mike clearly saw that Jason had something serious going on and that he had feelings for Ellie of some sort, love or not, he knew that there was something. Despite that they "held on" to the pact for dumb reasons, he could have solved the whole issue by simply saying "Hey, I'm having spontanous sex with my soon to be ex-wife, we might get back together again" and the whole pact thing could have been over in an instant, leaving everybody free to actually engage in a real relationship. But Mike chose not to tell them, basically putting his own selfish desire above his best friends, which in itself isn't the bad part. The bad part was that there was really no reason whatsoever to not tell them in the first place. They would have been happy for him if there was a chance for him to save his marriage. But he acted like an *beep* putting his so called best friends in the position of what basically made the movie plot, like ditching the funeral etc. Mike only had to open his *beep* mouth and tell them and the whole movie could have gone a genuine "ROM-com" way, instead of forcing stupid situations upon the characters for no reason.

I thought the film was quite good.

A lot of my friends enjoyed the movie also.

@Seltheus nice nick change :)

I just think you didn't connect with the actors and their characters after that whatever they did would not be satisfactory to you. Its like watching a movie with an actor you hate, the movie can be good, the actor could have given his best performance; you just would not enjoy it. Not that I am saying these were very good performances; it just we got connected so we enjoyed it.
