4 things I found unbelievable

1) Why would Magic take this fight? No way he would put his belt on the line for this fight. Unless it was a huge payday or something. I mean I could see if Gyllenhall was the new up and coming boxer, ready to dethrone the champ and make a name for himself, but he wasn't

2) During this "depression" period, Gyllenhall's character puts on no weight, stays incredibly lean, and seemed to just hop back in the ring, literally. U mean he goes from working nights in that gym, to an exhibition fight, then right to a title fight? Albeit just 6 weeks later? I know there was a few minutes in the movie it showed him training, but that was it.

3) Lastly, how was he out of money? That story line wasn't fleshed out all. At the table with 50 & the lawyer, he accuses the lawyer of stealing money, but we don't know how he ran out or was running out of money.

4) In that hotel, with all those witnesses, no one saw the shooting? Saw anyone with a gun? That just doesn't make sense.

Just some plot holes/story lines/occurrences I found odd and/or not believable.

Thoughts?

Billy was not a southpaw. He fought conventional in all of the fights in the film.

The scoring for the title fight was not believable either. I can buy a split decision but for Escobar not Hope. The last Judges score of 116 to 112 is nonsense. 5/10

The money loss is by far the most disturbing. A 43-0 light heavyweight white guy from NYC. Pretty sure he'd be a huge celebrity, with hundreds of millions in endorsements alone. Reminds me of Dark knight rises when Bane does whatever he does in the stock exchange. Then minutes later Bruce Waynes power gets cut off.

We get it they are poor now but there are believable ways to make this happen.

Not to mention he could easily make alot of money of selling his life story(wife dying, losing his kid and going bankrupt, enough for a couple of movies,a series and 28 Doctor Phil episodes) and of course joining the lecture circuit(like Bill Clinton made over 100 million, together with Hillary they made 25 million alone last year).

except he was unravelling and in no fit state to do any of that. if he could, he probably would not have had his kid taken away.

i agree with the overall point though that the riches to rag element was a bit overdone. i mean he lost EVERYTHING.

it's a movie...the whole thing was very forced but still enjoyable for a no thinker film.

The thing I find unbelievable is that no doctors/nurses/emt were present to save his wife. Geez even a person with a First aid certificate could have done something.

Right. He could've just carried her ass to the car and drive her/or taxi. I mean, I didn't even see no cellphones out calling the paramedics either. Now, everybody wanna pretend they live in the Dark Ages.

50 told him in the ring he only gave Billy 6 weeks to train. This fight was rigged from the second 50 suggested it. We already knew he may have rigged other fights. Also as he would say constantly throughout the movie, if it makes money it makes sense. He wanted to make a revenge match and make money. That's all it was about to 50.

I agree with most things. I mean, the first one doesn't seem unbelievable unless you started watching from the final third of the movie. If you have seen it from the beginning, then you know Miguel had always wanted to fight Billy.

Maybe you're right about the depression thing. Also, about the thing about the money. I think some things were too rushed and barely dealt with.

Finally, the shooting thing was also a little weird. A really emotional scene, but to me it was also a little implausible. The fact no one found the gun later, and that no one was accused as the perpetrator of the shooting is absolutely incredible.

I just can't stand the morons here, this Billy character is supposed to be 45-0 before his wife got killed. WTF? How can you go from riches to rags overnight, after a 45 winning streak? Ok fanboys will eat it, doesn't matter. Who the f killed the wife? No security cameras? No ballistic, no forensic investigation? Those were 2 different guns and i'm pretty sure after an analysis it would be clear. Whereas no just sweep it under the carpet and continue, because fanboys will eat any crap. Stupid people tring to defend this crappy movie.
