Genuine continuation of the fun or cheap cash in?

Based on who's involved behind the cameras, I really wonder how this sequel came about. The original was made by a filmmaker with a reputation for interesting films, Terry Zwigoff ('Ghost World', 'Crumb') and produced by the Coen brothers and the Weinstein brothers.

None of those people are back for the sequel, which is a slightly worrying sign.

'Bad Santa 2' was directed by the guy who did 'Vampire Academy' and 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' and produced by people who did films like 'The Disappointments Room', 'The Race to Witch Mountain' and 'Full of it'.

My guess so far: this reeks of a cheap cash in.

Looks legit. I think it'll be worth watching. It still has Billy Bob Thornton in it as well as Kathy Bates. The first film was strong and it had actors like Bernie Mac and John Ritter. (Probably B or C level actors) And the sequel upgraded.

We have what we seek, it is there all the time, and if we give it time, it will make itself known.

I agree. Looks like another fun ride. And it better be! The original Bad Santa is the only thing that gets me through the holiday season every year without harming myself.

Hmm... Early reviews seem to confirm my initial scepticism was justified. Shame.

Not sure. Reviews are poor, but the critics don't always like this type of raunchy humor. I like the first one, so I still might check it out.
