Does Thurman have a form of Autism?

Thurman acts very innocent and childlike in the film despite just having just turned 21, he said he was tested and top of the spectrum when Willie asks if he was completely Retarded, i dont see him as being mentally retarded, i see him as being mildly Autistic and high functioning, while not being very smart because Grandma neglected him due to her old age and his father being in prison and not being around either.

Kind of wish they wouldnt make fun of Thurman so much in both films, he is clearly Autistic and a neglected kid with low self esteem, making fun of people like that is sad, he reminds me of the Raymond character from Rain Man.

The character is neither autistic nor retarded - clearly. He was brought up by Christian helicopter parents whose helicopter crashed and left him with an elderly relative with severe dementia. I've met a few people like him, and there is no comparison with someone with autism, at any point of the "spectrum".

Not everyone who has a hard time functioning in society has a genetic or a congenital disorder, you know.

Is this how the new movie has it? In the first one, his father was still alive but in prison, and no talk at all about his mother or how he was "parented."

"Helicopter parent"

I was referring just to the first film, and to a metaphorical crashing of helicopters (his mom dying and father in prison). There are multiple versions, not sure if the religious stuff the kid says is just part of the added scenes in the "Badder Santa" version, but it's there.

Me too, but there is no referencing in the first one to "helicopter parents." Of course the kid was obviously brought up as a Christian, but that's about all we can assume about his upbringing.

Could be assburgers.

Speaking of,

There's a little tard a couple houses down who has assburgers, who sometimes pees on our lawn. Looks normal though, doesn't have the typical tard-face. But unlike other tards, he screams and freaks out when he sees shoes which aren't being worn. His mom says that's normal for some autistic kids, they have a thing which triggers them to get all aggro.

Well, in our case, that worked out perfectly. We simply gathered up every old and worn-out shoe we could find, and placed them in strategic positions around our yard.

Twice now, he's waddled over towards our lawn, presumably with the intention of peeing there again, and the next thing we hear, is him screaming and running away because of the shoes.

Mission accomplished!

He's just extremely naive and has a screw loose.

Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that.

He has Aspergers syndrome.

And according to his Gilmore Girls Mother, a really small dick as well.

reply

I think his character is supposed to be mildly retarded but still functional.
