Will I understand this if I didn't see parts 1-29?

I don't want to go into this not knowing what's going on.

All joking aside, it’s really only parts 1 through 14 that this movie follows. Starting with ZD15, Werner Herzog finally stopped directing (blaming an infection from an old pellet gun wound to the upper groin), and Jeffrey Reddick (of Final Destination fame) took over. It depends on who you ask, but most fans feel that Reddick slowly but surely ran the next fifteen installments into the ground. Long story short, word on the street in Hollywood is that while bingeing on cocaine, James Cameron watched all 29 films in a row without interruption (and it should be noted on VHS) and decided by part 27 that his ex-wife Katherine would be perfect to resurrect the franchise. Hence her involvement with ZD30. Anyway, the rest is history.

That's way too much to catch up on. But Cameron sounds like he's being obsessive of his ex-wife here. He should have directed it himself.

He’s already signed on for ZD32, and will begin production as soon as his directing duties wrap on “Lorenzo’s Oil 2: Even Oilier”.
