"Young adult" fiction is dumbing down the world

"Twilight", "Hunger Games", "Divergent" and "The Maze Runner" (and to a slightly lesser extent Harry Potter) are just making kids stupider. These stories make zero practical sense and the plots are even worse. I suppose it is good if they make children...but unfortunately it makes them want to read cr@p.

True that hunger games gas a very awesome plot.

How come these dystopian series are seen as more positive to read? There are some fantasy YA books with positive messages too. I like all three series (HG, Divergent and Maze Runner) but why are dytopian stories the only ones considered "positive" just because twilight was crap doesn't mean other stories like it are *beep* too.

If by dumbing down the world you mean that the overall intelligence as a species has increased in the last 60 years, then yes. You just been fact checked.

You seem to be arguing that if people have become more intelligent (which they have not), they're somehow incapable of producing dumb movies. Your post proves OP's point.

People are generally better informed and have access to more information than they did 60 years ago, but knowledge and intelligence are not the same thing. And in any case, I'm not sure you could argue that a franchise like Divergent makes sense on any level. The Maze Runner works as entertainment, but the premise is absurd. And the Hunger Games is equally nonsensical.

My problem with the current crop of dystopian YA is that their imagined societies are so ridiculous, they can't even be used as allegories for the real world. Nothing about the caste systems in Divergent or Hunger Games has any parallels in the real world, because the caste systems and societies in those books don't make sense at all.

That's a modern stupidity - thinking cut and pasting a link makes an argument. Don't think and reason; just google and paste.

Higher IQ's must coincide with being being trashy and lazy.

If by lazy you mean the 3rd hardest working country in the world, then yes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "trashy", but once one considers the subjectivity of the matter, opinions are null here.

Hahah thank you-^^

Except I didn't write that, you invented that quote and attributed it to me, as if anyone with functioning eyeballs can't see that. Then you posted a link that proves you don't understand the difference between measured knowledge and intelligence.

Any idiot savant can memorize things.

I think it's great for kids to read. But I don't care for all these "chosen one" and "special" protagonists. Kids get told that too often

Young adult? I thought these were for teens and tweens.
