No mention of donkey kong starting as a villain then becoming a hero?

Can't believe they missed the opportunity to mention how Donkey Kong went from the villain to a hero with his own game. Also no mention of the fact that most arcade games of the past were NAMED AFTER the villains (pac-man was the exception back then). You controlled characters like jump-man(Mario)but the one who got the most recognition were the villains Donkey Kong, Centipede, a few other games I forgot.. Missed opportunity if you ask me. Also I wish they could have had more none arcade game references like the Metal Gear explanation mark.

Named after the villians

Satan's Hollow
Space Invaders
Sinistar

But there are a lot that are named after the hero as well

Paper Boy
Q-bert
Dig Dug
Super Mario Bros.
Space Ace (Dexter aka Space Ace)

I think the official story behind Donkey Kong becoming a hero is that he's not the original. The one in the SNES games and other new ones is supposed to be Donkey Kong Junior. That might be the reason behind Donkey Kong not being mentioned.

You are correct in that the SNES version is not the original, but I thought that one was the original's grandson.

I think Cranky Kong in the SNES video games is the original.

I doubt Ralph or any of the characters in the arcade would've known about DK's eventual role reversal - because this was (and still is) never represented in arcade form.

Though this can be argued against since Ralph did reference Lara Croft (she's never been in an arcade game as far as I know), but I think that as long as the original DK arcades stay in circulation and plugged in, most arcade denizens would never consider DK to ever become "something he's not".

I mean....Wreck It Ralph IS pretty much the Donkey Kong of this universe, just like Fix-It Felix is the Mario surrogate.

Thought they made that fairly obvious.

exactly, this game is a metaphor for Donkey Knog, you can see it all over the character designs and level designs. Felix is a carpenter not a plumbers, and Ralph is a guy not a gorilla, but its obvious whats going down there - especially since we never see kong or mario to my knowledge, mario is only referred to in passing

You call that a cameltoe? Put your cheeks into it!

The Donkey Kong from Donkey Kong Country is a hero yes but he was never a villain. His grandfather, Cranky Kong, was the villain from Jumpman.

But, he eventually returned in Kong Country, made a family and his kids all live to protect he land from King K. Rule. Here's their family tree...

Somehow playing Donky Kong as a kid I never knew Donky Kong in the SNES was the grandson of the one in the game boy game I played as a kid. Which sadley is the only Mario game I ever beat.
