Actually, pretty sure they were talking about movie franchises as far back as the 90s...


contrary to what the horror expert in this entry in the franchise says. She says something along the lines of, these days it's all about the franchises, like it's a recent development.

Of course, movie franchises were around long before that (the Universal Frankenstein movies come to mind), but I'm not sure whether they were being called franchises back then.

I guess you could argue she's young, but she's supposed to be this huge movie buff, especially when it comes to horror.

Hammer did it in the 60s/early 70s with Frankenstein, Dracula, the 'Karnstein trilogy'; mid 70s to the mid 80s Universal did it with Jaws; early 80s to the early 90s there were the Prom Night movies. Away from horror, The Magnificent Seven (1960) had three sequels, a TV show in 1998, and a 2016 movie remake. Hell, look at Bond.


Edit: The Carry On series has got to be a candidate for the biggest. 1958 - 1992; 31 films, four Christmas specials, a TV series and three stage shows.
