shareI think they got a bit of heat at the beginning because Neve and co. had been the leads in all the previous four movies and it felt odd seeing them take a back seat to a new batch. A lot of diehard fans have loyalty to the original cast.
I feel like most people came around to them, particularly Ortega, with Barrera getting more love too. The other members of the 'core four' seem to be more disposable with most not caring whether they come back or not. The fact Scream VI made more at the box office than V (with a particularly strong opening weekend), even though Neve and David weren't in the cast shows that the general cinema attending audiences were happy enough to progress with Barrera and Ortega as the new leads.
I don't think many are happy they're gone, rather a lot of diehards are happy Neve will be taking center stage again.

Ortega seems fairly popular right now. She has her detractors, like anyone who is a public figure does. She's fine, though.
shareI don't ever see Ortega being a gigantic top tier star, but she's having her time in the spotlight, and I'm sure she'll settle down to a good, steady career for as long as she wants it. I like her.

Wednesday was Netflix's second biggest show ever by viewing figures (after Squid Game), it's getting a season 2 and she's of course been cast in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She'll be getting some fat paychecks for continuing on as Wednesday Addams and should season 2 be as popular as 1 they'll be wanting a 3 and 4!
If Burton keeps directing I could see him recasting her regularly like he has done in the past with Depp, Keaton, Bonham-Carter, Ryder and so on. He's one of those directors who casts the same people over and over again. So much so he has a wikipedia page dedicated to keeping track of his frequent collaborators.

I don't see Ortega ever being an Academy Award winner, nor a big box office draw, also given her diminuitive height and cute look she may age of out good lead roles like many actresses before her but for the next few years she'll be sitting nice and pretty. She officially jumped ship on the Scream franchise shortly after Barrera got canned but it was already rumored for a few months prior that they were struggling to get her on board. Pay and scheduling conflicts were cited. She got too big for Spyglass Media Groups' Scream.
They’re awful and boring
shareI like Ortega, Barrera though? Terrible actress, especially in Scream 5. How anyone can say otherwise is beyond me. Just watch her performance in 5 and try to tell me she does a good job... you'd have to be a blind stan or very young to think she gave a good performance.
