Not much to recommend Here

I can't say there's much good to say about this film other than it was filmed reasonably well, and even that is arguable, especially at the beginning of the film. There's not much thrill, no memorable performances, and some very stilted writing and dialogue in numerous scenes between the "family Gere" (I'll just call them that because I can't recall any of the characters names.) A bit too much plot, and none of it handled well, sort of a poor man's Michael Clayton if I was going to compare it to anything. I don't recommend and am not sure about the hype involving Richard Gere's performance. Other than he's aging well, he's not very good here, seems to fall back on indication of every emotion, stereotype and hubris. Sarandon is lost in a thankless role and Brit Marling, playing the forlorn daughter, has to deal with terrible dialogue and no character development. A very flat first effort from the filmmaker.

I agree, although Gere has never been a great actor. He's got star
quality up the wazoo and he's always competent, but never compelling.
As for the film itself, it is slick, forgettable entertainment with
one-dimensional characters and so-so acting all around (including
Sarandon, who didn't seem to have any kind of grasp on her character.
But neither did I).

The film is entertaining, but hardly memorable.
