Did anybody else think Gere looked like........

I didn't think he looked like Bill Maher; I just think he sleepwalked his way through this role. He's not old, but something seemed off about him or at least about the way he played his character, who seemed more likely to commit suicide just because he was turning 60 than to be involved in all the hijinks that Miller is involved in.

The only scene where Gere came alive is in the confrontation with his daughter in the park. The rest of the film stretched credulity, possibly because the running-time was too short, script consequently weak, and the protagonist never really someone the audience can have either sympathy or hatred for. (Compare Arbitrage to Michael Clayton; there are lots of similarities, but one of them isn't a compelling anti-hero.)

I think Gere keeps getting better looking with age, which seems to happen only with men.
