shareit's called preconceived narratives, so many godawful films are hailed to the point where they win oscars because the preconceived narrative demanded so, so naturally there has to be a flop and for some reason this was chosen as the flop.
shareDid you actually see this or are you just assuming this as having been "chosen" to flop? Because I just saw it and I really thought it was awful. It was boring, joyless, needlessly confusing, and not even all that well acted. The first part of the climax which had potential was so poorly shot it was difficult to tell what happened and the second part of the climax just seemed like lazy writing and ultimately anti-climatic). Perhaps it worked well in the novel but if so it didn't translate to the screen.
shareNo I haven't so no spoilers please but the trailers look better than absolute GARBAGE like Alien Covenant, Blade Runner, Moonlight, and any other garbage movie being praised today with its godawful digital teal and orange photography and trite, revisionist crap.
shareI agree, the trailers looked pretty darn good and I was actually looking forward to this one. I was aware of the low RT score but hadn't read any actual reviews and didn't think it could actually warrant that low of a rating. I was wrong. It was bad. Really bad.
sharehow is that different from everything else right now?
shareI can only speak for myself but there are several movies I've enjoyed over the past few months including It, The Foreigner, and even Happy Death Day was a really fun movie experience. But my point had nothing to do with any other movie. I was just saying that this wasn't some conspiracy of critics choosing this to flop, it really is as bad as they are saying (at least imho).
shareIt is one of the worst films I have seen IN MY LIFE, how can anyone thought it was good is beyond me, so if not a conspiracy then what explains its success??
shareI thought It was very good. The majority of my horror fan friends thought it was very good. I'm not sure what criteria you're judging the movie on but I thought the kids playing those parts were great and even if you were to take the supernatural aspect out of it I would still watch a movie about those characters. There are very few movies that are going to please everyone but I have to admit that if you think It was one of the worst movies you have ever seen, you and I simply prefer different cups of tea. I still find it hard to imagine anyone would think The Snowman is good, but perhaps you will see something in it that I did not.
I'm 34 years old I've watched great horror classics like The Exorcist as well as regular horror films and It is one of the worst films I've seen, you tell me how you can see old horror films and then It and think it is any good.
shareI'm 43 and have seen The Exorcist as well as Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, Psycho, TCM, Suspria, Peeping Tom, The Omen, Christine, NoES, Nosferatu, any wide release slasher film, many more obscure slasher films and lots more in the horror genre which happens to be my favorite type of film. Me liking It doesn't diminish my appreciation of any of those other films. With the exception of one brief instance at the beginning of the film (the use of poor CGI to simulate Georgie's arm being ripped off which imo should have been a practical effect), I not only enjoyed it but also consider it an actual good movie (as opposed to a bad movie that I happened to enjoy of which there are many), and so did many many other people. Neither of us is going to change the other's opinion so we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
One thing I would like to clarify though is when you say it's one of the worst films you've ever seen, are you exaggerating or do you really feel that way? For example, I love the original Nightmare on Elm Street and consider that one of the best horror films of all time. But the sequels I know are not objectively good movies (although I can get some enjoyment from anything Freddy Krueger whether it's good or not). But do you think It is worse than say NoES 5: The Dream Child? Or Freddy's Dead, The Final Nightmare? Or Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning? Because honestly I consider It light years ahead of those films and a slew like it in the horror genre. I rarely call something "the worst I've ever seen" because a statement like that should be reserved for very few movies.
Ever notice that the people who entertain conspiracy theories about critics taking bribes or intentionally skewing the consensus always always ALWAYS have terrible taste in films?
shareI have to watch this to make a judgment but the reviews are highly negative.
shareI don't like to criticize someone's taste in movies because everyone has a right to their opinions but looking at some of LetThem's other posts I think it's safe to say that he and I have very little in common with the exception of both liking The Exorcist.
shareHe and basically everyone who isn't miserable and hates films have very little in common lol
shareHarry Hole...nuff said!
shareRushed schedule and studio interference. Almost 15% of the script never got filmed.

The Snowman from a few years back. A detective whodunnit where they neglected to film 20% of the script because for some reason the studio forgot to hand over the missing pages to production. Then they had two different editors cut the film in completely different ways achieving completely different senses of pacing and tone and mushed the two edits together. Then the leading man refused to promote it. Then the director’s dad died the day before the premiere.share
