Lizzy just tweeted SAB won't return til 2017

Lizzy just tweeted that SaB won't return til 2017& she dosent known when. She didn't say why it won't be back til then.Im shococked FreeForm is treating one of thier few long running, successful, critcally acclaimed award winning show like this.

reply

Really? that sucks! I was so excited for it to come back! this is one of my favorite shows!

Are you sure?

What? That sucks. Yeah just checked her twitter she tweeted it.

I thought a late August/September premiere because Freeform was unlikely to give the showa summer slot in June, but 2017 is crazy. Also there is no guarantee that Freeform will give it a January slot in 2017 either since June/January are the key slots for Freeform.

reply

That is so stupid..all I gotta say to that is...it better be a damn good season.

reply

The press is all saying April 2017 now. Many people thought that was a typo, but with Lizzy's latest tweet, it seems certain.

That means 13 MORE months, on top of the 5 months we've already waited.

If anyone wants to start a campaign to change Freeform's mind about the cancellation, campaigns have worked to save TV series in the past.

http://io9.gizmodo.com/5875356/fan-campaigns-throughout-history-that-saved-scifi-and-fantasy-tv-shows

Six thousand bottles of Tabasco hot sauce saved Roswell. Twenty tons of peanuts saved Jericho.

I was thinking we could send "nuts" because Kathryn Kennish collects squirrels and Freeform is nuts to let this TV series go.

Or we could send Hershey's Kisses, because when Travis kissed Bay, he said, "Don't tell me that's not real."

Or we could all send paper timelines (illustrating how we first found the show), to replicate Emmett's timeline for Bay.

There's probably a million good ideas and sometimes they DO work, but we would need to make one of them happen right now.

I'm down

reply

This sucks ASS. WHY are they doing this to the fans?! This SUCKS!!!!

reply

I just heard from someone who works at Freeform that the network is struggling financially. I also heard from this person that their impression (at the network) is that hardly anyone still watches Switched at Birth or cares about it.

reply

^ Well the only show that actually gets more than a million followers lately is PLL on Freeform and even that has been plummeting in the ratings. The new season finale was the lowest it's ever been.

reply

Wait a second. If it's not coming back until 2017, then why do I keep seeing plugs for S5 on Freeform?

reply

Because it was originally slated to premiere next month but the network changed their mind last minute. Screw Freeform!

reply

Well that blows. And they continue to taunt us with misleading commercials:(

reply

Ratings are useless.

They can't measure international fans who downloaded the program because their local TV station didn't show it. Too many TV channels compared to 30 years ago so each channel has few viewers. D0 TV companies expect 30 million viewers like Dallas (1970s to 1980s) these days. TV companies need to start reducing the number of channels if they want more viewers per programme.

reply

Is the show not on ABC anymore?

reply

abc family is now called freeform

reply

Why are they doing this??

Something major has to be going on behind the scenes because this is ridiculous. The ratings were nowhere near bad enough to deserve cancellation, let alone this.

I know. Part of me is hoping for a last minute renewal....although, I don't know how plausible that would be.

reply

I hope they don't cancel this on a cliffhanger like they did with Chasing Life. Producers really need to stop measuring a show's success solely off Neilson ratings. I personally think they inaccurate and don't use enough households in their sampling. (Have you ever met a family or were a family with a Neilson box?) They need to also look at the show's social media following (I follow this show on FB), the interest in the show's IMDB page, and how often the show is streamed online through Netflix or the ABC Family (now Freeform) app. I no longer have cable so I have to wait for it to upload to Netflix. If producers would look beyond Neilson they would see that SAB is a very popular show.

reply

I'm so upset/pissed that SAB has been cancelled and that it's not returning until 2017! This show and the cast do not deserve this treatment. I know that SAB is not as popular as other shows on Freeform but it is one of the most inspiring and informative shows that Freeform has on their network. It's the only show that features deaf actors on it (at least on Freeform) and I find it very sad that they are having Season 5 be the last season. This show truly gives insight into how a deaf person lives and brings more awareness to the daily life of a deaf person. I'm so sad to see it go. Freeform is making a mistake.

reply

I am equally sad and pissed that Freeform is cancelling the show, and also delaying the final season for a year. WTH?!!

There's a petition gaining momentum, if you want to sign it.

It appears Freeform may be having second thoughts. They are refraining from announcing their decision officially. They seem confused as to what they want to do.

Here's the petition:

You better believe I am going to sign that. Thank you for sharing, MollieDanny.

I know that some fans will watch season 5 if it airs in Jan 2017, but I think that they will lose most of their remaining audience due to the gap. It just is too long a time gap for fans to keep caring about the show. We are in an era of immediate (ish) gratification. Many people will just move on. Freeform's shows have gone down in quality and they are losing ratings as it is. It's a huge risk for them to not return this year.

It sucks that Freeform is treating SaB like this. Is it possible that it is because they are no longer ABC Family that they made this decision? Did the network decide that the show needed to be rebooted so that it matches the Freeform edgy image that they want to portray? Is one of the actresses pregnant or dealing with some other major life change or crisis? Those are the only reasons that I can think of for the network to do this.

reply

2017? Jeeze that's ridiculous. They might as well have not even bothered filming it if they aren't going to use the material soon!

Seems ridiculous to have a show already filmed (I'm assuming?) and just shelve it when you have viewers wondering about when it will be back and wanting to see what happens next.

By the time it comes around people would have really forgotten what had taken place (I kinda already have) and wont care enough to tune back in or have time to catch up again.

what is this mess!? Freeform must need to add more crap shows. Yeah lets just cancel a really great running show that's different than all the other shows on their channel. yeah okay sounds like a great idea FREEFORM ;/

reply

This is insane. If the season is filmed, why can't Hulu or Netflix pick it up? these TV networks need to get with the times. nielsen ratings mean nothing anymore.
