Melitta- why is it unreasonable to love...

more than one person? No one ever raises hell because I love more than one parent, or more than one sibling or more than one child. Why should friends and lovers be any different? It is very possible to love more than one person. This idea that there is only one person who can fill you every need and that person is your spouse is ridiculous. Why do we persist in this thinking?

reply

Sure, as long as you're honest about how you feel with both people. What Melitta (or moreso Gannicus) did to Oenomaus was wrong, and it wasn't so much love as it was just lust.

reply

You can love more than one person at a time. But you can't be faithful to two people at the same time.

Rose: I'll do it, I'll be the plant.
Sophia: You are a plant.

reply

Define 'faithful' please? Do you mean as in forsaking all others? If that's the case, don't ever say you're going to be faithful.

I can truly love two people at the same time and never betray them, if, as another poster mentioned, I am honest about it.

But therein lies the problem. Most people are unwilling to accept honesty at that level.

Example, my husband is the most excellent man in the world. He a wonderful friend and companion. He a good provider. He the greatest dad in the world. He takes great care of me. But he's boring and not the best lover. So should I never be allowed to have great sex ever again just because I'm married?

Likewise, I'm excellent in bed, funny, attractive but I'm not very affectionate and loving. But he adores my personality. Should my husband never know the sweet embrace of another woman?

Well I would be a terrible father and can't provide for sh~t, but I'm an excellent lover. Isn't it crazy how that works?

reply

LOL what is wrong with people on this board. Is nobody serious anymore? This is turning into The Prison Break board.Best board ever.

If you're such a terrible father maybe you should keep your 4.25 inches in your pants and stop trying to "perfect your bedroom skills" or wear at least 2 prophylactics ...please!!!!

The world does not need anymore Ted Bundy's or John Wayne Gacy's because mama/papa didn't love me enuff crap .

FOXY!!

reply

Who said anything about trying to perfect? And I'll keep 4.25in my pants and let the other 5in have some fun ;p
LOL I'm just trying to kill the boredom and gloom on this overcast Sunday

reply

If you and your husband agree to have an open marriage and don't object to each other sleeping around, cool. However, if one person reasonbly expects the other to adhere to the marriage vows, look out.

reply

Perhaps YOU can't. Others can.

reply

Blaze LMBO...was that sarcasm or are you being serious. love your post, hilarious.
That Gannicus is an actual bacteria filled whore whereas Melitta happened to fall in love with him by chance. She is just a woman who fell for another human being. She has only ever been with the dark one (watch how this board reacts to that) so she is not a slut. And this word slut...why should one woman call another this? Evolution is a beautiful thing, shame some people don't embrace it.

FOXY!!

reply

Melitta is not a slut!!!!She would have never acted on those feelings if she and Gannicus were not made to have sex in front of people. Can anyone imagine doing that in front of people (it’s embarrassing and humiliating). No wonder women will never surpass men, we don't know how to stick together, how shameful!!!Stupid women, ugh!!!!!

He makes love like the way he works on the streets,as gentle as a jackhammer.

Well now you're talking about sex and someone who can fulfill what you need physically, not necessarily love. Look at a situation like this. I'm a guy whose with a bisexual woman who also shares a sexual relationship with another woman. Now this other woman can't satisfy her the way I can or vice versa, but we both make her happy nonetheless. Now things only get messy when another tries to compete. However, if you're in open relationship like that and accepted how things were right off, then you should be able to make the issue of competition not an issue at all. In fact, you can use it to intensify and benefit that physical part of your relationship all the more.

I agree with your idea of how relationships could be, its just people in this day and age are brought up to believe in "set in stone" type beliefs that may not truly suit them in their personal lives.

reply

It is not. Philia and moreso Agape are all about loving many people.

It is unreasonable to betray someones trust like Melita and Gannicus did do Oneameaus however.

Princess, respectfully, I am not advocating cheating but I'm terribly against the idea that one person can fulfill all the needs of another person.

That's an emmense amount of pressure to have to be one person's everything: undaunted friend, passionate lover, loyal companion, warm embrace, partner in crime... It's a complete set up for failure. People have this idea that there exist a soul mate that will be all that is ever needed in life. It's not true.

People have different needs. I don't need a lot. One person can and has provided the things that I need. I understand that it is not this way for everyone.

Polygamy works for a lot of people, but people should understand both sides. There are people that polygamy does not work for them as well. Probably more people are into polygamy than monogamy or serial monagomy which is different.

Either way, people are different, that is all I am saying.

I think people are kinda forgetting the context of events, she's a slave, she doesn't have much choice, in fact the people that chooses to love is about as much as her choice gets. Given the choice she would've picked a totally different husband. I mean couldn't exactly say no to 'O', would she be allowed to? This is a totally different set of circumstances from modern day 2011 life. I didn't even know slaves were allowed to get married but then again they are...as long as the master chooses the partner?

Lucretia decided that O was a good mate for Melitta and gave her to him as a gift. She deemed him worthy of a virgin. I think Melitta grew to love O and respected him due to his loyalty to her and good/decent qualities. However,
he did not spark the same passion in her as Gannicus. I figure the perfect partner is one who can do both for you.
