I plan on watching these series but do I need to watch BotS before GotA? Or does it matter?

Go with Blood and Sand first. You will appreciate GOTA a lot more.
shareI'm going with the exact opposite. With the exception of the opening credits of GOTA, which spoil B&S, I preferred watching it first as it was the backdrop I wanted to understand just how much Batiatus was trying to make his own name in Capua...and that point is done so very well in B&S but it is pounded in/home in GOTA. The man would do almost ANYTHING for his wife and stature.
