I'm confused

I know Andy Whitfield isn't playing Spartacus but Spartacus as a character isn't even listed here. Also If you go into "full episode list" they have them dated as starting in Jan 2011. Shouldn't it be 2012? Is this an inbetween season?

Gods of the Arena is a prequel to Blood and Sand, so it deals with the house of Batiatus before Spartacus' arrival (and was made in the interim to try to give Andy Whitfield time to recover from cancer treatment). So, no, the character of Spartacus does not appear in Gods of the Arena.

The continuation of the Blood and Sand story-line will be in Spartacus: Vengeance, which will begin airing later this month. On IMDB, it is covered on the Blood and Sand page.

Thanks, a prequel makes sense. I was wondering why all the romans that died were still alive in this one. I rented the first set from Netflix. What added to the confusion was it's just called "Spartacus" and I found out later it was also known as "Blood and Sand". For even more confusion, if you lookup Spartacus: Vengeance at IMDb it states the original title was "Blood and Sand". I guess I'm not as confused but still dazed! Netflix doesn't list "Gods of the Arena" as being available, even in the future. I hope it will be.

DebbieNaz,

The situation is a bit confusing, but hang in there. I'm not sure what the series is called in your region of the world, but here in the US each series of Spartacus has a different title:

Series One: "Spartacus: Blood and Sand"

Series Two: "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" (prequel series, takes place before "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" -- filmed while Andy Whitfield was ill)

Series Three: "Spartacus: Vengeance" (with Liam McIntyre replacing the late Andy Whitfield in the role of Spartacus)

I hope this helps.

That's not quite right. Starz has very consistently designated Vengeance as season 2. The prequel is just the prequel.

So it's:

2010: Spartacus: Blood and Sand (season 1)

2011: Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (prequel)

2012: Spartacus: Vengeance (season 2)

I live in Arizona. Whether you consider Arizona as a part of the US is a personal choice. I consider it's statehood as "honorary", but that's another forum. I think STARZ is the one to listen to. I knew something was coming up in 2012. I don't know why IMDb has Vengeance listed as "TV Series 2010". Looking forward to any I can get through Netflix. Thanks

I believe Sam Worthington was one of the actors considered. I could be wrong though. I do know he was one of the suggested replacements by the posters.

The other big thing is that it appears they look regionally for actors. The show is filmed in New Zealand and the majority of actors on Spartacus are actors from Australia and New Zealand.

Since only the biggest movie stars from those countries make it to the USA, almost all the actors are unknown to us.
