I have to say that one of my favourite caracter was Batiatus. His lines were always well spoken and interesting and him using the word "cock" made me laugh everytime !

Oh yeah, easily one of the most complex characters in the series, I dare say more than Crixus. The way John Hannah would play him had a lot to do with it IMO, probably helped by how he'd improvise certain things into the character. You'd hate the guy's guts for quite a few very sick acts, yet ya' also loved him for the sheer joy and pride he took in his warriors. When Batiatus would cheer for Spartacus in the arena, I'd cheer right along with him.

I watched the first three episodes from the DVD this weekend and John amazed me all over again with his performance.

You found Crixus to be complex? I found him to easily be one of the least complex characters in the whole series, but he is starting to pick up a bit in Vengeance so hopefully there will be some new dimensions added to his character besides "WHERE IS NAEVIA!!!!??!"
