Dads hatred towards Gannicus? Flat out silly

I could see how his Dad didnt like the way Gannicus went about his training and lifestyle (like a slave should have such great morals and conviction?) but even if that was the issue. Gannicus beats a guy blind folded, i think every story has been embellished over the years. But even that one, goes BEYOND belief and could NEVER happen. Yet if true, and he beat his best fighter blind folded. Sorry, his Dad would not say "he is no a champion and not worhthy as half of a dozen other gladiators here" - exact quote. Hate the guy all you want. But sorry, for his father to say he is not a champ. Just flat out brutal writing. And i think the writers have did a great job! Considering the lose of Andy and they had write this pre-quel quickly.

You must be like 17, you wouldnt understand what hes coming from. Champion isnt only your skill with a sword in his eyes, but you you hold your own standard and present yourself. You need both quality's, not 1.

reply

but he still beat a guy with a blindfold, that just blows Batiartus Sr.'s argument out of the water.

His dad? I own it on blu ray and I don't remember seeing Gannicus's father. Is that what you are saying or do I just not understand

Cult Leader my mind's frightening, I drink blood from a human skull like a Viking

Titus Batiatus was all about honor. You could fight a cyclops with two missing arms and win but if you did it with the reputation of a drunken women-chasing lout you were still not a champion in his book. You were merely entertainment and someoen to look down on. This is why he appreciated Onemaus so much. He raised him as a young man to be a gladiator and he was completely dedicated to the house of Batiatus.

exactly diamonddix1999 -

1. Titus was not there when Gannicus fought blindfolded or won any match in the Arena.

2. When he comes to Capua he DOES see Gannicus waking up when he wants to and back talking Oenamaus.

3. So he meets with Gannicus. This scene is great and foreshadows Gannicus's issue in Vengeance and War of the Damned. He asks Gannicus "What does your heart beat FOR?" and you can see he has a hard time responding before saying "The house of Battiatus". Whereas Crixus said to be a champion of the Arena. Spartacus to fight for his love (wife), etc.

4. Only near his end does he admit that his son was right about Crixus and Gannicus. "I fear we are a dying breed". So part of his resentment towards his son's Gladiators was his own and had nothing to do with the Gladiators.

reply

It was more about him doubting his son than actual ire towards Gannicus. And the above are right, Gannicus really didn't care about the House at all.
