Melitta's Death/Gannicus/Oenomaus

Why did they kill off Melitta?. When did she start having feelings for Gannicus? Why she did agree to marry Oeonomaus, if she had feelings for Gannicus?. I would like have to seen her character in Blood/Sand and War of Damned. Her storyline with Gannicus and her husband Oenomaus should of been played out, it was interesting. I hated and loved Gannicus. Gannicus was one sneaky bastard when he pursued Melitta behind Oenomaus back. I feel saddened for Oenomaus on how Melitta and Gannicus cheated him. Yes, there were forced to have sex, but after that Gannicus pursued Melitta. Melitta really loved Oeonomaus, I think she would of picked him than Gannicus. I think Gannicus is overrated little whiney guy, he should of just slept other women forget Melitta. Gannicus was no friend to Oenomaus. He cares about himself, drinks, sleeps, basically he has no honor. Gannicus should of left the Ludus and moved on. I think Oenomaus forgave to easily. In end, Gannicus gets crucified, so what you reap what you sow.

Melitta likely had feelings for Gannicus for a long time, and vice verse, they just repressed them due to how much they loved Oenomaus. And they both did love Oenomaus, Gannicus as a friend and brother, Melitta as a lover and husband. Emotions are messy and not very convenient, I'm afraid.

And over the years, Gannicus did move on as much as he could - remember, roughly seven years have passed from the end of Gods of the Arena to when Oenomaus died, time for both Gannicus and Oenomaus to process emotion, grief, and loss. Oenomaus had months to learn what happened, and work through his feelings. In the end, he decided that his love for Melitta, Melitta's for him, and his love for Gannicus was more important. That takes strength and honor, both things Oenomaus prized - it feels completely in character for him.

As for Gannicus, he grew a lot in those years as well. First in trying to bury his grief and guilt in wine and woman, and when that didn't work, devoting himself to Oenomaus. In doing so he found the honorable part of himself. In many ways, it reminds me of the relationship between Enjolras and Grantaire from Les Miserables.

Blood and Sand came first. She was already dead by then. They had to kill her off.
