Excellent film

I have to start by mentioning that this sometimes feels like it’s trying to be my favourite movie; Requiem for a dream. I’m not taking a jab at the movie at all. I mean, if I was to make a movie myself I’d probably try to make something like Requiem for a dream too. It’s just that some scenes do manage to impact me like Aronofsky would but some of them don’t. The messages of “how we are our own worst enemy and how much self-destruction a human can inflict itself in a short period of time “ and of “ how fame in showbiz will drain and suck the life out of you” were nothing new but definitely cranked up to the max here. It was actually pretty funny at times. If you’re a crazy fucker like me, watch this movie with headphones. THAT’S where the fun is! Ha! Demi Moore was scary good, Margaret Qualley went all in, or should I say all out, Dennis Quaid was furiously nuts and Fargeat is most definitely a director to look out for. I will rate this one slightly higher than her first movie Revenge: 8.2/10

Fuck yeah, SK!

I just finish it, and I went in as blind as I could. As I was watching it, I was thinking “So a pretty good blend of Death Becomes Her and Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction video”. Metaphors, disgustingness, pretty cool colour pallet – perfectly satisfactory. I though the fight between Andie MacDowell’s offspring and DemiFly is gonna be it, and was like “okay, is _this_ what all the fuss was about?”. Not bad by any means, but not mind blowing.

And then the second activation happened. And this French woman gave us a grotesque, wonderful monster thing, worthy of Cronenberg or Carpenter! Putting on the earrings had me in stiches. From that point on until the end – perfection.

Here's to more top notch body horror, and ladies being disgusting!

It was a modern day, moderately budgeted B-movie, nothing more. The film is not meant to be taken seriously, neither in story nor in style. It's so unbelievably over the top, from the acting to the editing to the writing to the cinematography to the story, that it's hard to really regard this as anything more than schlock, which would be fine if it weren't for the super on the nose anti-male holier than thou "OMG can you believe how hard aging female celebrities have it" bullshit it spews from beginning to end.

It's okay at best. AT BEST. The idea was interesting, and the ending was, uh, inspired, I guess, but it's ultimately a fairly shallow one dimensional film with the veneer of social importance. Absolute nonsense masquerading as something more. The director needs to go back to film school so maybe she can learn to hold a shot for longer than 5 seconds, and how to develop characters and write dialogue.
