Why would putting your cell phone on the bar mean you have to buy a round?

Why would putting your cell phone on the bar mean you have to buy a round? It seems anyone could miss that small sign. It seems harsh.

Jennifer Connelly doesn't fuck around.

I'd refuse and smash the bar up as punishment. See how she likes it.

What was interesting about the bar scenes in this movie was that people were actually interacting with each other, playing pool, ball busting and ACTUALLY talking to each other without constantly checking their phones...like a time trip to when phones were not around

That's a great point, probably exactly where it comes from given Penny's character (50-something blood-military taking over a traditional military bar). She probably figures the bar will stay "traditional" if she keeps phones off the bar and out of play.

Agreed and I wouldn't buy anyone a round because of putting my phone on the counter.

reply

Then you would be picked up by the patrons and carried out of the bar.

Jennifer Connelly is from the 80s, before iPhones turned Americans into screen addicted zombies.
