Intro Music

I like the song but I find myself skipping forward every episode, I think the biggest issue they have with this show is the intro song and it's a real shame because this show is so good.

What is wrong with it in your opinion? Just asking civilly. I think it is tremendously well done given the history of the song, the visuals and it is sung by a Japanese woman.

reply

@SkippyJustice:

No, the song is covered by the Swedish Jeanette Olsson for this show, not a Japanese woman:

reply

That's right. I remember looking that up in season 1 and being just as shocked. Is that a normal Swedish accent?
Still a haunting song. The juxtaposition of a Japanese woman singing it would be an added bonus but not to be!

reply

I am not sure about the Swedish accent, but I agree with you that it is a haunting and very beautiful song. I think the cover is really good. :)

I also love the fact that the song "Edelweiss" was originally written and performed as a gentle opposition and subtle rebellion to the Nazi occupation of Austria in the Sound of Music. From the Wiki page:

The Lindsay and Crouse script provides the metaphor of the simple edelweiss wildflower as a symbol of the Austria that Captain von Trapp, Maria, and their children knew would live on, in their hearts, despite the Nazi annexation of their homeland.

Oh, and that would be a very cool juxtaposition if they had a Japanese woman singing it! :)

Exactly! That is why it is such an interesting intro. I make my wife sing it to me each episode. She is about as close to tone deaf as you can get. It is both hilarious and endearing.

reply

Hahahaha! That is both cute and funny. I bet your wife sounds pretty cool. She adds her own flavor to the song, I'm sure, :)

reply

The message of the song isn't so subtle during the scene at the Salzburg Festival. The Austrians in the audience all join in while the Nazis look increasingly uncomfortable.

reply

That song is amazing and I will be disappointed if they change it. I never skip it and it's sad that people would judge a show from the intro anyway.

If this is Locke, then who's in there?

reply

If you did this every episode of Season 2 you missed one of the major characters witnessing major historic event in 1945.

reply

I like it. It's appropriately creepy and so are the visuals that go with it.
