Wondering why Tagomi didn't point out to the General that large numbers of civilians coming down with radiation poisoning might tip someone off that radioactive materials are being smuggled?

Of course I also wonder where the heck they are getting this enriched uranium. Last season they were just finding uranium ore deposits, and now they have somehow constructed a clandestine uranium enrichment facility?

Probably because they could depict the 'getting sick' part as a slow process.

And medical science for that period, especially in the alternate timeline where a 'superior race' cared a lot less for the sick, would not be advanced enough to know as quickly what the cause was even after they did start getting sick.
