season 2 is bogging down . . . very badly

Season 1 was great. In season one, you have a reason to care about the people and events.

So, now we have season 2. Supposedly there was some controversy before creating season 2 about the direction of the season.

Now, what do we have?

1) Joe Blake and his possible alleged-to-be dad have arguments about whether the dad left the mom or the mom left the dad and Joe Blake learns he may be illegitimate . . .

2) the lead heroine begins to infiltrate the Nazis by introducing herself to a women's bridge group and then . . . while getting in good with secret stuff . . . or not . . . probably not now but in a dozen episodes later . . . going shopping for a new dress with a woman who is the wife of a propaganda minister . . .

and

2a) finding out that the wife of the assistant propaganda minister is having trouble getting preggers and she feels so bad and her hubby does not look at her the same way . . .

3) meanwhile, in the European part of the Reich, Joe Blake is introduced to Nicole who introduces him to drugs and an orgy of kids who will become, she says, the new reich . . .

4) John Smith the half-evil American nazi finds a way to save the life of his child by having the kid go out of the country and be kidnapped in a way that prevents the Reich from wanting the kid killed for some physical defect . . .

5) the man in the high castle burns his collection of films and moves to a different location . . .

So . . . the films which are all-important and lead persons and groups to kill each other for them and to have secret conspiracies and spies to find them and the resistance to keep them secret and bring them to the MIHC . . . well, they are not really that important and we/they can just destroy them or nearly all of them . . .

and now,

for the coup de grace . . .

the American dealer in Americana and antiquities who is subservient to Japanese rulers . . .
has hired a prostitute for some sex . . . and we are watching him and her. She is dressed in Japanese garb and the man wants her to say some Japanese words as part of the beginnings of their sex.

What is next?

The Beattles come to Berlin?

Different music critics argue among themselves as to whether or not the Beattles are sufficiently Aryan . . . the dispute goes to Hitler, who after careful deliberation, decides that while song records may be sold, no performances shall be done in the Reich, because the Beattles are not sufficiently anti-Semite?

Whoever is in charge of this is just writing stuff to have episodes and losing viewers. I can barely watch it in the background now while I am surfing the net for other things . . .

Spotnitz and Amazon have released the following joint statement:

We are all idiots and have decided to destroy a great concept by loading in pointless personal filler stuff that goes nowhere so we can indefinitely extend the seasons and episodes as long as we have funding . . . cause we can't think of any really good spy and drama conflict worth writing into the script that would last for more than 30 minutes and we have adopted the idiot's non-diet diet . . . like eating no vegetables, and having a gallon of soda pop and five desserts for dinner . . .

While the news of Joe Blake's birth situation are truly heartbreaking, this plot development has now lead us to watch reruns of Days of our Lives for continued story ideas . . .

A source disputes reports that Spotnitz’s exit was due to the producer being hands-off, instead pointing to creative differences with the studio, but confirms that production has been halted.

It was a complete mess.

The show started in season 1 with promise, but this season has completely ended my interest in it. I think part of it was an obvious attempt to try use this season as a bridge to a next, but much of it was just pointless and meandering. And did the Nazis manage to cut air travel time in half? People seemed to practically beam over huge geographic areas in very short periods of time and it was hard to keep up with their comings and goings. Joe on acid? Why? It didn't seem to move his character anywhere and the actor is just as stiff and dull as ever. Don't get me started on the west coast, I was completely confused by that story line. How does Tagomi manage walk in and out of parallel universes at will? Glimpses of the other universe were cool last season. Moving in with the "real" 1962 family was not cool.

It's a shame. It could have been amazing.

Floquick2 I was thiking the same about the travel being too quick until someone that has read the book said the Nazis were travelling to and from Europe in Rockets which were obviously very fast.. they were also travelling to space with the Nazi Space Program.
It would have helped us to know these facts... I don't know if they did in the show but if so I missed them.

Haters gotta hate. I loved it. You got a world full of Nazis and Japs to kill. What could be better than that?

Nazi dragnet: awesome.
Nazi uniforms: still awesome.
Hot Nazi babes: awesome.
Dead Nazis: awesome.
Dead Japs: nearly as awesome.

I'm only on episode three, so I didn't read your post because of spoilers, but in response to the title - yes, this season is looking to be a mess. Too many plot lines fighting for screen time and nothing seems to be moving forward.

Interesting....I thought season 2 was superior to season 1. But then again I'm more intrigued by the alternate universe(s) aspects of the show, which played a much bigger part in season 2 than season 1.

I'm with you there. A lot of character development this season with Frank and Smith.

I'm halfway through S2 and it's a pile. Very disappointing.

It started out shaky, but I think it wrapped up nicely overall. Ending had me in tears when Julianna realized what the man in the high castle had done and what she accomplished.

The cold winds are rising. Winter is coming.

This season was better than first one imho. Sure, it was slow, especially first half of it but still better overall. First season had a more interesting first half, but also less build up and weaker ending as well. I mean, ending of first season was great but in a way it was carried by shock value and was a better cliffhanger than revelation/resolution. This season tied up most of the conflicts and revealed a lot about the world and characters in it. Did you finish it?

reply

season 1 was better and season 2 is a bit slow but the end justifies the means in my opinion.

Yes! Yes!

MITHC has deployed some soapy plot devices in season two. I'm still watching, as I enjoy stories of alternative timelines.
