Mustard

What was up with all the mustard in the Tagomi alternate San Fran? I think there were two jars in the fridge and at least one in the cupboard. Then they were prominently seen on the shelves when he went grocery shopping.

reply

There were other repeats. It was just period-correct placement. If they had to pay for the use of brands, then they probably picked a finite number of labels and used some of them repeatedly.

Do you have a cupboard with canned / jarred goods? Are there only one of each?

reply

Somebody had to make each of those vintage labels, etc. It takes a lot of time for several seconds of screen time.

True, but your point being?

reply

Must I spell it out for you?

Instead of spending days replicating a hundred vintage products for a three second scene, they re-used a handful.

reply

I thought it was just to keep reinforcing the idea that it's the alternate San Francisco.

reply

I also see a lot of Tabasco sauce in various scenes.

reply

He was in an alternate mustard universe, very similar to our own timeline but with more mustard

reply

Juliane might have been able to chock down that sauerkraut if only she had more mustard!

reply

I want to live in this alternative mustard world.

reply

I wouldn't mind being in one with more mayo

reply

They also had Hellmann's mayonnaise in the San Francisco refrigerator, though Hellmann's is known as Best Foods Mayonnaise west of the Rockies.

reply

Is that still true? How funny. I rarely buy mayo but when I do there is always Hellmans on the shelf.

reply

Mustard is the catalyst required to switch between realities. It's a well known fact.
