How Did They Nuke DC?

Did they use a conventional or jet powered Amerika Bomber or the Sanger version?
Did they use a missile? Or was it 5th Column?

That would be interesting. I do get the feeling that there would have been a lot more Nazi sympathizers in that timeline (not that there weren't plenty in ours).

If we're going to go that route, maybe Smith himself helped plant it and wanted to be in a spot where he could get a good view of his handiwork.

"Helen, I know this seems bad, but trust me. It's for the best."

Or she's in on it, too.

They see the mushroom cloud in the distance. Their instinctual shock and fear are quickly replaced by satisfaction.

John--"Pour us some wine. Only half a glass for you."
She brings the drinks over. They raise their glasses.

Helen--"To the NEW America!"

It's never really stated although the nuclear device itself was definitely developed by the nazis, so I think it's likely it was dropped by German soldiers coming from an aircraft carrier. I do think it's pretty likely the '5th column' played a huge role in America's downfall however, and that Obergruppenführer Smith was likely a secret nazi sympathizer during the war. It seems just a bit too coincidental to me that he'd be in position to watch the bomb drop (but out of harm's way), especially given that his wife implies that he was supposed to have been at Pentagon 'hours ago'. Beyond that you'd have to figure that in order to get to his position (of the most powerful nazi in America), Smith likely would have had to have played an important role for the axis during the war.

Yea, I have a hard time imagining him just skipping the meeting to hang out with Helen. Not his style.

Traveling during the war, even in our "realm" was haphazard. And remember, there was a great difference on how pregnant women were treated back then,
especially the first pregnancy.
