Edelweiss

Am I the only one who thinks Edelweise is an odd choice for a theme song? In "The Soumd Of Music" it was sung in praise of Austria in opposition to German rule.

Much discussed last season.

Exactly, a song that laments the homeland of old and sung as an act of defiance to oppressive rule

reply

It is because the show also involves an opposition to German (and Japanese) rule, just this time in the United States. The country of Austria is never mentioned, so it could be used (semi-allegorically) against any oppression. It is not even an Austrian song, despite a widespread misunderstanding even among Austrians. It was written by two Americans, as far as I recall.

Fanboy : a person who does not think while watching.

Absolutely. Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II, two legends of American musical theater.

I think it's perfect that a fake patriotic song is being used in a show about alternative realities. Just as when "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" popped up at the end of the second season.
