Profane language in the series

This series has an interesting concept that I would have enjoyed viewing. However the use of the F word turned me away from the show. The use of bad lsnguage adds nothing to the show. Do the producers realize how many viewers they are losing?

reply

I'm not a fan of vulgar language, but I'm going to call "Citation Needed" as to "how many viewers they are losing". Amazon clearly decided to produce the show as a "mature audiences" series, so they presumably thought through the audience issue.

Untrue. When people are angry, for example when they find out someone is an SS agent by watching a newsreel of themselves being murdered by that agent, they sometimes swear. I found the profanity in the show sparing and used sensibly.

"There is no more human race. There is only.. the Master race!"

Had not noticed it until your complaint. Usage seems appropriate and not excessive. Mild even.

Expletives are a natural and normal component of language and expression. Avoiding the use would weaken the dialogue.

reply

Do you troll every show board and complain about language?

In the real world, people curse buddy. Get over it.

The F word?

Farsighted?
Frugal?
Fantastic?
Fifth?
Fourth?
Filthy?
Funny?
Figurative?
Fatso?
Freak?
Frack?
Final?
First?
Floppy?
Female?
Future?

Boy oh boy, you're just like these CLIMATE CHANGE people! LET'S OUTLAW ONE OF THE CHEMICAL ELEMENTS because a PROFESSIONAL LIAR makes up a story about the sky falling! And we can't have people saying WORDS that make YOU feel uncomfortable.

But this is how people speak. If a real life person would use a word in a specific situation, then I expect the person in a movie to do it, too.

It adds realism. And sorry, if a normal man hits his thumb with a hammer, he will shout sh*t or *beep* or whatever, people like you who have a general problem with this are definitly not the standard.

To make movie characters act in a not normal way - by not swearing where 90% of the people would swear, that's what you want? Sorry, that sounds crazy. And swearing in the correct situation DOES add something. It's called reality.

Profanity is literary laziness, in my opinion; and yes, it did knock MiTHC down a notch in my estimation.

reply

The show features graphic depictions of murder and torture and yet profanity is what piques you?
Odd.

Gee and gosh those dang Japanese have gassed my family.
What rotters.

Hmmmm...

reply

Welcome to the American mentality. Brutal graphic violence is ok, but nudity and bad language is unforgivable.

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too.

reply

"Profanity is literary laziness." Nice! I can definitely agree that it can be extremely overused and too often substitutes for good writing. I was grateful it wasn't excessive in TMITHC, but wish it was relied upon even less. I hope it continues to be used sparingly.
