if they combined both storylines of bean & Ender would it have been a better film?

Supposedly, that is exactly what they did do, supposedly the big breakthrough in writing the screenplay was the realization that they needed to combine Ender's Game with Ender's Shadow. I didn't really get the sense that that was what they were doing.

No, I don't get that sense either, but that is what Card claims he was trying to do.

Yeah, I agree. Having read some of the books I was aware of Beans significance but the film, as with the Ender books, was all Ender.
