Guess 'The Man Who Could Work Miracles' is in the public domain

One of my favourite old' ti-mee movies from the 1930's, so, not a rip-off an homage?

reply

Thank you. I thought I would be the only one to remember that movie.

reply

So that makes three of us then ;^> I remember catching the film on TV as a kid, I wasn't that interested to begin with as it was black and white, but I was off school ill, and not well enough to get up and change the channel, one of the rare occasions being ill has been better for me than being well LOL

Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved?

reply

Same here, - I just saw a trailer for this film, and it is clearly a rip-off.

reply

You're not the only one. I remember it very well -- and I'm only 68.

The idea isn't new -- Bewitched is a bland variation on it. It's almost always played for laughs, and if not, the treatment usually ends in disaster. "Humans lack the wisdom to use unlimited power." That doesn't seem to apply to the Q Continuum, who get away with it.

This is an odd coincidence, because I'm about to send a letter to Christopher Nolan, urging him to let me present a treatment in which Superman gains god-level powers (through physics, not fantasy), and proceeds to start taking down the real villains of the world.

I suspect this will be one of Terry Gilliam's duds.

I think you've got the wrong Terry, this is written/directed by Terry Jones, not Terry Gilliam.

In fairness the Q aren't human, just humanoid in form...sometimes.

reply

Most definitely Topper.

one of my favourites too. i'm ok with this remake. i like simon pegg so i'm fine with this.

Another favourite is 'A matter of life and death' with David Niven. had a different name in the US but don't know what it is.

Pretty sure if this is based on anything it's Bruce Almighty, not a 1930s film barely anyone's heard of. It's better than both of them, incidentally.

reply

well, you're evidently wrong. it absolutely is based on The man who could work Miracles, any arguement is plainly ridiculous.

Unlike you, I have actually seen all three films and The Man Who Could Work Miracles is far and away the better film. It is a fairly well known British film based on a short story by H.G. Wells, who is also pretty well known. It's a very good movie, unlike Absolutely Anything which is not a good movie at all. Absolutely Anything is a waste of a great cast.

reply

Unlike you, I don't assume that someone hasn't watched a film they've cast judgement on. I have seen all 3 films, and The Man Who Could Work Miracles was dreadful. What's more, it's not well-known. HG Wells is well-known. That film is not.

You are lying out your a$$. If you had truly seen The Man Who Could Work Miracles you would know that it's not at all dreadful. My best guess is that you are a 13 year old on your Mommy's computer. You have only posted on two films, Bruce Almighty and Absolutely Anything. That says a lot right there.

reply

The movie is dreadful, and you are a very unpleasant person.

reply

Actually, the 1930s film is based on a short story by the great H.G. Wells, so all the movies mentioned are technically based on that story, I'm sure.
